my memory is rubbish. ridden both of these a few times, but cant remember.

from the lion inn I want to follow the ironstone railway to bloworth crossing, and then head down ingleby incline.
I rode the railway last year on a 29+ bike, this year I will be riding my tourer. 40c tyres.
and I cant remember what the surface is like.

anyone?

I rode the Bloworth - Lion Inn section last August... IIRC it's pretty smooth, it was part of a C2C so it's all a bit blurry but I *think* you should be fine on the tourer.

Not sure about the Ingleby section, but again I'm fairly sure it's wide track used for shooting (and they don't like to get their Range Rovers dirty...).

If no one else can confirm my old man is a ranger on t'Moors so I'll check with him.

You’ll be fine Tony, the incline isn’t as smooth as the track from the Lion though, quite a few ruts & a bit stony but take it steady & you’ll be ok.
I went for it on my last run down the incline, hit 52mph & i advise you not to try & beat it, scary. 🙂

Tony, we used to live in Rosedale Abbey, the only "rough" bit of the old railway was the section around the head of the Dale where in a couple of places there'd been landslips across the track. The bit from the Lion to the incline is no rougher than a well bedded in forestry fire road.

Aye there's some quite spicy bits around the head of the valley now, makes a nice finish to a Rosedale ride.

A while since I rode down the Ingleby incline but I do seem to recall a rather large gate about half way down which makes you check your braking skills
