Got the turbo trainer out last night and put in my road bike.
I've swapped out an older saddle for a mtn bike saddle that is my No2 saddle.
About 30 mins into my ride, I lost all sensation in the crown jewels area.
Does this happen with anyone else, or do I just need to get out of the saddle every so often as once feeling came back it was not pleasant (the returned feelings as opposed to my jewels!).
Yep, 30 mins is my twitch period too.
I have lowered the saddle by 10mm and this has sorted it as I found I was rolling a little too much.
No, but I did get numb nuts on my MTB when I had a very long road ride on it. That said there isn't much difference in road/mtb saddles.
I'd say it's probably a combination of shorts and fixed position. Or were you bouncing about on the turbos?
It's not just me with the large genitalia then.
For some reason I find the seat needs to be a little lower on the turbo.
A harder gear, cycling shorts and changing position now and again helps too.
yup, about 3 minutes max, then no feeling at all.
Its down the the bike being fixed in one position.
Is the front wheel on the floor? If it is stick an old yellow pages or something underneath it, or just tilt the saddle back...
"but I did get numb nuts on my MTB when I had a very long road ride on it."
Every time on long road sections. Offroad is no bother.
Get one of them saddles with a groove in the middle. I was having the same problem on the track. After about twenty minutes I was starting to get pretty numb and it's not easy getting up out of the saddle for more than a few seconds in a line without causing a crash.
Fitting a grooved saddle worked great.
Get the bike level for a kick off.
Padded shorts - tick.
Level - tick.
Grooved and non-grooved saddles tried - tick.
Front wheel elevated - tick.
I think I need to vary my position and get out of the saddle more - meaning I'd best weight the rear end with some weights or I'll crash. Doing 0.0 mph.
I'll lower the saddle too.
I get it after about 15mins out on the road bike. Fizik arione. May change seat.
Seeing the title, I thought this thread was about how daft you'd have to be to buy a turbo trainer. It's a common problem though. My old fella falls asleep before I do on a tubro trainer.
With sub zero temperatures and soon to be dumps of snow, I wanted to get it set up, slap on a DVD and while away an hour or so.
I'd forgotten how hard it was, it's like riding with the widest, most awful tyres fitted + adding one to drag behind for good measure.
Or maybe I'm more unfit than I realise!
Ditto mate, what trainer you got?
Elite Crono?
I think that's correct
