I have a Mk1 Nukeproof Mega with a leaking Monarch shock.

Can anyone recommend an alternative shock as a replacement please?

Many thanks

CCDB Inline was amazing on mine, before it was nicked.

Slight hijack but in a related way has anyone done a debonair upgrade to the stock monarch shock on their mega?

I tried a 2015 debonair monarch plus RC3 on my 2013 Mega. It was a M/M tune and I hated it in comparison to the stock shock. Almost all shocks that come with frames are custom tuned though so I wasn't completely surprised.

I like my shocks firm and quite heavily damped though so YMMV with one on a Mega, plus mine is a 2013 rather than your 2012 so the leverage rates may have changed between the two.

Actually I'm not helping much am I.............

Do you need to replace it? Can it not be repaired?

My Monarch off my mkI mega leaks because the oil damper shaft is scratched. I ordered a new one this morning for 46 quid, and I expect that to make the shock like new.

MK1 Mega here. I swapped my RT3 for an RP23 ages ago - made the bike feel loads better to me - much more lively.

Swapped my monarch for an Xfusion jobbie, and it really improved the ride. Customer service from XFusion has been spot on too.

I still have the almost unused shock from mine I'm happy to sell on if you're interested?

I've been playing with the tuning on mine (it has a shim stack inside that can be fiddled with to tune the compression and rebound) so I now have taken the shock from an MH3 tune, to MM3 to something halfway between the two which is just perfect.

Unfortunately, in doing this I dropped the shock and scratched it :-/ hence the new damper body.....

I guess what I'm saying is that with a bit of attention a Monarch shock can be excellent.

Also interested in this to spruce up my Mega.

I tweaked my Monarch.
DIY full service was £25 with a seal kit off Amazon.
Stock shock was very linear and blew through the travel. Pumping up lost small bump sensitivity, so I reduced the air can volume (the space in the high volume air can can be reduced using rock shox bands, or inner tube!) to give lower pressure for my sag but better ramp up.

It's much better now but I'm still looking for more. The Debonair Monarch Plus in on my list. Piggyback good for long fast descents and alps stuff and debonair can sounds good. It only seems available in a M tune. Looks like it's need a custom tune and a volume reduce for me if I go for it.

Other experiences welcomed!

For a bit of balance I also tried the monarch plus debonair on a Knolly Delirium and loved it on that, so the shock wasn't at fault just the combination of Mega/shock/tune didn't work well, at least for me.

My Monarch let me down in the lakes one Nov. It's been replaced with a Fox CTD Factory with a Loco tune to suit, no problems so far.

The original Monarch had also been tuned by Simon due to the blowing through the travel thingy..

Mk1 Mega here too.
The Monarch never felt up to much, just sort of dead.
I have a CCDBCS now which is fantastic. Night and day.

The stock monarch on mine was always pretty crap but as noted above, much improved by adding some volume reduction 'spacers' (packing the outer sleeve with grease). I went to a CCDB inline and it was in a whole different league. Much more composed, none of the wallow / kickback i'd always lived with before. Can't recommend it enough. Also tried it with a CCDB coil which is amazingly good on fast, rough, choppy stuff but the extra weight over the inline probably isn't worth it for most other riding.

The RT3 was high volume I think (whatever was sold with the frames) - RP23 is standard.

I have a CCDB Air for sale that was on my MK1. Now have a 2015 with the CS on it as it works so well. Its on ebay. It comes with all the necessary mounts and has new DU bushes fitted. Also comes in the original box and with the little tuning spanner.
