Hi,

Looking to pull the trigger on one (if i can find one). However trying to keep cost to a minimum by swapping everything over from previous bike. Anyway I have a SRAM X9 2x10 setup with 39-26 rings.

Nuke proof state in their website that the mega designed around 36tooth but goos with 22-36, 24-36 double or 34T-36T single ring.

Am I screwed or would I get away with using my 39-26 setup ??!

Thanks

I was tempted by a Mega... got even more tempted when I went for a week with Trail Addiction - the guides seemed to love theirs.

However, 2 of them have now snapped theirs (after having them for 3 or 4 weeks).

Not so tempted any more.

Dave

First I've heard of any snapped ones. Where did they break?

I think it's really designed to work best with a 36 due to placement of the pivot, and it does seem to work very well in that ring. I suspect it'll work with what you have but the suspension may not be operating optimally.

I don't have any details, just heard through facebook in the week after we had left that our guide had snapped his, then heard a week later that another had gone (don't know if it was a common failure mode).

Would be a shame as it's a great bike, and seems solidly built. Be interested to hear what NP are like with warranty service too.

How would running a 39 tooth setup upset the suspension ? Please explain.

Thanks

The main pivot is placed at a point pretty much on the edge of a 36t chainring. Believe this gives optimal performance of the suspension in a 36t chainring. Think this is quite common with single pivot. No idea how or why this works though!

Another breakage to report...

a. Nan Bield > Kentmere
or
b. Both chainstays, simultaneously
Pls choose appropriate answer according to how "where" was meant ๐Ÿ™‚

The report is second-hand, via a mate on FB. The breakage was right down the welds (same place on both stays) so that's a manufacturing fault in my mind.

Mine just survived a week at Morzine and was pretty bloody brilliant... though I may just have a good look at those chain stays.

Edit: All looks fine down below!
