Chaps,

Are there any regular evening/weekend riding groups around the Chester/N.Wales borders?

We've just moved up there (to a small village at the bottom of the Clwydians) - so, I'm keen to get out and find the good stuff!

Some early exploratory riding has unearthed some steep climbing and fireroad descents!

One Planet Adeventure (Llandegla trail centre) do a fortnightly night ride on a Tuesday. Updates are via their Facebook page.

The Edge Cycleworks (Chester) also do shop rides I think.

Only we don't really ride as a group these days (familys & other issues)
I was going to pull the plug on the site as no one uses it any more.
Russ has set up a smaller site but can't link it here from work

It's at ChesterMTB.org newer server and forum software.

Tons of climbing and descents to be had in the Clwyds, Colin another local has put up a whole pile of routes here >> http://www.theedgecycleworks.com/mtbroutes/

Clwyds is in the most part quite XC sort of terrain. Obviously like all ranges there's a few nadgery, picky and dare I say "cheeky" bits. But it is based around a lot of climbing on double tracks, but there is a lot of it. I am fairly local and as a group we ride there a lot through the summer evenings (in fact off there tonight) personally I don't ride there much after this time of year as when it gets wet, its simply an unpleasant mud bath in most places. But if you like earning your descents and don't want to stick with the N.Wales trail centres, its great to have the Clwyds on your doorstep. Whereabouts are you based if you dont mind me asking ?

Colin - linked to above does long 'shop rides' once per month and also evening rides every two weeks so get in touch with him. Trails are fab at the moment, bone dry and lost of great singletrack to be discovered.

We also live at bottom of Clwydians. If you pop into the Golden Lion in Llangynhafal, they will be able to put you in touch with local riders. You could also try Chester Great Outdoors Club - some of the members there go mountain biking.

Thanks All ...

Certainly keen to meet some local riders...

I'll get on and join the NWMBA facebook page...

Steve - thanks for the offer, I'll take you up on that! I'll drop you a line.

We're going to be based in Llanferres, behind the Druid pub! (we're building a house there)....at the moment, we're with the inlaws in Pantymwyn...which is interesting, with 2 children under 2!!

I think I may have ridden past the Golden Lion when exploring, came down a lovely little bit of singletrack (may not have been acceptable behaviour) from Moel Famau....to a road....with a pub on the left hand side!

Cheers,

That will be an ace location, bridlepath even if its a tad steep to start with on your doorstep and Pantymwyn is a stones throw away from Cilcain where lots of paths start from.

Rorschach - Jim in the pub did mention that some of the locals rode....but, I'm yet to see any bikes around!...are you one of them?

Some of the routes listed on the Edge website look like a reasonable place to start....

Steve - works for me, I'm officially on a career sabbatical....learning to build houses!...so, my hours are flexible too!
