Cmd-R getting quite heavy usage here!

I am a local - live in Epsom - so know that place reasonably well 😀
Good to see some extra bits mind. Enjoyed some of the 'stream-riding' sections.
The really nasty bit was the muddy descent from Ranmore road down to the railway line. Wolvern's lane not so bad imo.
Nobby nic on the rear seemed like a good compromise... Big hans dampf + mud guard on the front gummed-up.
I thought it was a pretty dull course - haven't really ridden that area for 15 years or so so thought it would be an opportunity to see some of the interesting bits - got hacked off with riding up dull fire roads past what looked like nice bits if dryish Singletrack
I suppose logical the reality of trying to thread x hundred riders of very varying experience down tight tracks would have been problematic

always been the issue with organised rides - they have to stick with bridleways.
Riding any local to where you live is an exercise in ignoring the good bits and sticking to the route.
You can't really blame them for it but it is a shame.
Good point, why was I there.... I was doing for the charity, "hills for flat areas" They make small hills from dirt and rocks in flat areas like Cambridge, so that people who live in there can safely learn to ride down hills without the risk of swerving all over the place and endangering other trail users if they travel to anywhere with a hill.
Miaow! xterramac!
@cm Various rides leave Westcott Green, out the front of Nirvana Cycles, throughout the week. Hook up with them if you want to ride with locals. I do Weds nightrides (1830) which is fastish XC, ST - other rides do more jumpy & freeride if that's your bag.
The nightrides include a beer stop, I recall you like beer. And arm-wrestling.
Just saw the event as a nice catered ride round with some mates, a few laughs, a few nice bikes to check out, etc etc But I must now have a moan about the guy who, lost his temper with the 2 girls who didn't move out of his way quick enough on the steepest part of the climb up to the first feed. Thought that was a bit off, I mean I can understand being frustrated at having to dab a foot and not make the climb "clean" but no need for such blue language really young man. The girls looked quite upset by it. A simple "on your left" would have probably done the trick!

*really hopes it's the OP*
🙂
Dunno, but I did a track stand watched it unfold then rode past him as he pushed his bike up it and said "on your right" much to his annoyance
for the record, are people free to ride as slow as like on ascents in your opinion ?
ps how long the track stand?
I did a track stand watched it unfold then rode past him
<swoon>
arm wrestling?
oh yes - that titanic struggle near Zermatt with the swiss fireman and his grandad and the "glasses of power"
'kin 'urt that did - couldn't even brush my teeth the next morning....
Blimey, all been happening whilst I've been commuting home! 😀
always been the issue with organised rides - they have to stick with bridleways.
I was wondering this having down the Ups & Downs event a couple of times: why can't they let them down sanctioned trails that can take the traffic like yog pots or bkb? The pack has spread out sufficiently by this point in the route that it wouldn't be much more traffic than a busy sunny summer Sunday.
perhaps they don't know about them 😆
riding here and sticking to the bridleways and byways is fairly pointless really**. did it do the new SL2 trail from just below the Tower?
** to be fair it depends what the rider enjoys, but that would be more a bike-ramble than trail riding day
Redlands ... so close ... but so devoid of little pink ribbons!
Only on STW , biscuit anyone?
Handbags at a Wiggle ride, fabulous.
I can confirm the organisers do know pretty much all the trails in the Surrey Hills are , but as you can see from the above the standard to rider is so varied what Njee , Nuke , Gee, TH etc could ride down blindfolded at night without breaking a sweat is unfortunatly beyond alot of newcomers who attempt these gruelling event.
bimey, two weeks ago i rode around the area and didnt bump into a single person, this makes it sound like a bad day in Beirut!
(I did ride at 7am on a dry, dusty Sat) 😀
Disappointed, thought this thread had legs. I'm calling troll on xterramac.
Meh, it's plausible, he's a good rider, and has form leaning against banks in gullies: clicky.
I can see why I'd do one of these rides in an area I didn't know, but for the reasons Singletrackmind and mattjg mentions I wouldn't do one in an area I know, I'd just get irritated I reckon!
Nah, horses for courses, of course, many people will enjoy a fire road spin, but if they're going to miss out trails as obvious as the big names on Leith/Holmbury, I think I'd sooner bumble around with a map and a sense of curiousity.
