[Closed] NiteRider documented battery life bit far from the truth?

I purchased a NiteRider MiNewt 600 earlier in the week, and after getting nearly caught out with the battery running out I decided to run my own battery life test.

The manual states that on full power battery life is 1.5hrs (the manual states that the figure is an approximation), but my test revealed flat battery after just 1 hour. That to me is way off what the manual states and I struggle to understand why the manual states an approximation, given the that the power requirements of the bulb will be well known and as such a precise figure should be possible.

Very frustrating, especially considering that I purchased the light based on the stated battery life

Are you testing with airflow? You may find reduced battery life if not being 'used' normally - i.e. you need to keep it heatsinking rather than overheating. Make sense?

If it's not that then get is swopped.

Don't these batteries need a couple of charge/discharge cycles to get to full capacity?

That is pretty poor. My Magicshine still churns out 2-3h, and is now entering its third winter.

They required 4 or 5 full charge cycles before the battery goes full term. Also test it by using it but not in very cold conditions. Temperature affects run time as well...below freezing and you can lop a quarter to third off the run time easily.

I have a TriNewt. The battery has never given me the advertised life, and I just figured that's a norm in the industry. It's a good light otherwise though.

Most of us are riding with these sorts of lights in winter where the temps are low. The manufacturer should give an honest indication of the life in the temps they are likely to be used in.

However, I switched to AyUp and their batteries do what they say on the box and more. Better system altogether.

Some interesting points there. The test was with the unit in the house and it did get a little too warm. Even when on the bike with air flow it is not giving the specified times. I will speak with the shop and see what they say.

It was rather cold on the bike tonight. I may be wrong, but it felt pretty cold tonight. Around 3-4c
