I'm moving to NZ next year and thinking about the best tool for job. At the moment I've got a Trek Fuel 29er with a 140mm Pike up front that handles most UK trails nicely, but wondering if something a bit bigger might be in order to make the most of the terrain?

I'll be living in North Island so mainly riding Rotorua but will be spending time around Queenstown/Wanaka. Wondering if it's worth trading in for something a bit bigger to make better use of some of the downhill available.

Just in Rotorua 2 days ago, though hiking only, from what I could see of the trails there, and talking to the locals, your current bike should be fine.
Most of he trail network seems nicely built and managed, with nice wide trails and well laid out jumps etc, great for your standard 125-150mm travel do it all trail bike.
I envy you, I would kill to have this on my my doorstep.

Nah, you,ll be fine with that. Most areas are groomed trails so unless you are seeking out the grade 5s all the time, the fuel is spot on.I live in Whakatane and regularly ride in the bay of plenty area so if you need any help just let me know.
