After reading this thread and seeing the Kona @plus-one posted, I went searching eBay and found a 58cm Paddy Wagon listed ending early on a Saturday morning, collection only down in Essex. I managed to pick it up for £62.50 (after using a £5 voucher), the seller was kind enough to hang on to the bike for a couple of weeks until I had site visits in the area. Managed to collect it on Wednesday evening and got it home yesterday.

It's been used as a commuter for years and is a little rough around the edges, rear tyre had a puncture (quick tube change) but the wheels and tyres are sound, rear brake is pretty seized, front not too bad nothing a little grease and some exercising won't sort out. The seat post was seized.
Biggest issue is the cranks, both pedals were very tight, the right came out with a big persuader but the left was rather recalcitrant, turns out that it had been cross threaded in to the crank...

I'm hoping a helical will work, otherwise I'll been the hunt for some cheap cranks for it. the right hand threads are pretty furry too and will want chasing through.

Trying to spend as little as possible on this project as I wan't a cheap bike I can leave locked up outside the gym without worrying.

Bargain that 🙂

Well worth a bit time to get road worthy.

Makes great commuter/pub bike.

Proper bargain. I would have thought a new crank may be a lot less hassle than helicoil....

Bargaintastic! I had a PW a few years ago and will always regret selling it, they are great bikes - enjoy!
