Is it a reputable retailer, question for them really. DO YOU NEED TO SHOUT THOUGH?

I bought mine second hand. When the screen froze and it wouldn't switch back on I gave them a call and they swapped it out. I told them I bought it second hand and they were ok with that.

It helped that the device hadn't been registered before, so I could register it in my name. Although I didn't have proof of purchase it was a new model and the unit had been manufactured less than a year prior.

I found the whole returns process excellent.

my wife returned a huddl without proof of purchase to tesco and they repaired it...I seem to remember she looked into the nitty gritty and they had to repaire it as it was under a year old (new model so couldn't have been older)

it didn't matter if it was 2nd or 3rd hand

Tesco's can take afford to take the hit & really they should have asked for the receipt but at least knew it was under a year old... but that doesn't mean Garmin will, they do ask for receipts. Going from a friends direct experience, complete opposite of bitasuite's, they offered a fix , but for a rather large fee. It's 2nd hand I'd doubt they would & can understand why they wouldn't... go trawl round your local aldi's or be more proactive to find one on the next offer (regularly come up for £80)

I seem to remember Garmin only asking me for the unit's serial number

Though, thinking about it, this was for an out of warranty repair where they give you the option of purchasing a refurb unit at a very much reduced price.

I dealt with Garmin directly when I needed my 810 repaired. Despite the unit being less than a year old (so you would normally go via the retailer) they just took it in and swapped it for a 'new' one. Even though I *told* them I'd broken it due to being a ham-fisted idiot.
