Got a 5yr old Epic at the moment and want an orange 5 after a recent test ride. Not sure whether to get a complete bike or a frame and swap stuff over, only thing is i'm no expert on building up bikes so trying to work out what i could potentially swap to the new frame.

So what comnponents do i need to check will be compatible with the new frame in my pricing up?

i've got a feeling that it may not be as cheap as it initially looks just buying the new frame and some forks, as i reckon there might be quite a few bits that wont fit.

cheers

Bottom bracket (usually ok these days with external BBs that use spacers)

front mech

seat post (diameter and potentially length)

fork (steerer diameter and length)

seatpost diameter
bottom bracket width
rear axle
forks have enough travel
acrtually swapping stuff is pretty easy, headset is probably hardest- hammer block of wood and screwdriver will do it tho
you will need teh correct bottom bracket tool as well

You were lucky unless you were buying a load of other stuff from them or they know you very well...

kimbers has made some good addtional points.

I also thought - front wheel axle type if you do change forks.

Can add brake hoses/adapters to that list.

You'll need new cables, but that's not a big deal. May need a chain on a swap like that, which may mean cassette/rings.

Gear cables and hose length to consider too.

Seatpost clamp. You might have the same seatpost diameter but need a different size clamp due to seat tube thickness.

Many (most IME) frames come with a clamp 🙂
