Santa Cruz Blur TRc
santa Cruz Nomadc
Ibis Mojo HD / 140

saving madly at the moment, but can't get passed these , I ride mainly trail centres and local natural stuff , I like longer travel bikes, seem to be ok on my back , short travel just hurts. I know I pay for it on the ups but cant decide , never ridden the Mojo or the Trc used to have an older 07 Nomad which I remember being great.
what would you recommend?

TRc....or there is an LT3 coming out next year.Your stumpy legs are waaay too short for an Ibis (with a long enough tt not to have to run a 100mm stem!).

Shameless plug:
I'm selling my 10month old nomad c in a medium, in lime green. I have replaced it with another. They are a wonderfull and are a genuine go anywhere rig. I've done 50mile xc routes to trips to molini etc. Awesome.
2800 New with a kashima shock, selling mine 1650ish...

Unshameless answer:

Blur ltc - fantastic bike, kit out with 160 forks they will go anywhere. Frame weight much the same as a nomad only less travel.

Nomad c - awesome.

Mojo - only thing I really don't like is the cable routing.... yuk!

TRc - i've ridden a couple, they are quite a good fun hoon bike. Although does that not come under the 'short travel' genre?

I had a Nomad C. I thought at the time I really liked it, but on reflection, there was a few things that annoyed me off about it. The sizing is a bit odd, very short TT's for the given size. I should have been on a large, but I needed the TT of an XL, just not the 21" ST to go with it... The geometry is on the old school side of AM now, but then it's based on a bike (nomad 2) that was originally introduced nearly 5 years ago now. I wouldn't be surprised if a new updated model is in the pipeline.

Mojo would be a good shout, especially with 2 shocks to make it 2 different bikes. I agree with a point someone else made about the cable routing though - complete afterthought on a nice looking bike ruins it.

What about an SB66C?

SB66, especially if you need a longer top tube.

hob nob, just curious.

OLD SCHOOL
Nomad c
HA 67 degress with 160
SA 71.5

BRAND NEW
SB66
HA 67 or 66.7 with 150 forks
SA 71.7/72

But with SC and Yeti builds virtually no difference between old and new. Pretty sure the Mojo HD 160 runs on about the same angles as well. SC does size up on Yeti, I ran a small Yeti compared to a Medium SC, but you have to try before you by, SC sizing works for me, struggled for years with Yetis to get them just right.

Nukeproof mega would be an option - with quite different angles, but I haven't seen the new AM yet.

Selective choice of numbers there!

The Nomad for starters is based on a 36 fork, the SB is based on a 32, which is nearly an inch shorter. The SB is considerably slacker, like for like.

BB is a fair bit lower, wheelbase is a whole lot longer, TT is longer, CS is shorter etc etc.

TRc if you don't dish out lots of abuse like big drops, gaps, jumps but you want a v light, solid, versatile and fun as hell bike. Mine is perfect for me but if I was regularly riding dh then I'd want something more burly for peace of mind.

There are tonnes and tonnes of reviews on all three bikes, the hardest to decide between will be the nomad/mojo.

SB angles are for both 32 and 34 forks respectively.

Wheelbase is 11/2 longer medium for medium but s/m yeti to m SC hardly any difference. Working on the sizing differences of small to medium Yeti to SC Also don't see a lot of difference in Top Tubes again comparing small to medium. Can't explain why they compare unevenly like that, but they always have. I always had to try and make a small yeti a little larger or a medium a little smaller, Santa cruz seems to fit better on what I 'think' should be the right size if that makes sense?

BB is half an inch lower fair enough, no escaping that one. But I never felt the BB is too high on the nomad (not convinced I would be able to tell the difference anyway)

Ultimatley I think simply reading the angles doesn't quite work when picking a bike, it has to fit well, feel right and look right as well, never buy before you try.

(BTW, I have done about a dozen nomad c this year and I think we have done 11 SB66c overall so they both sell well and I have no beef with either of them - but I ride a nomad c 🙂 )

I have had a ride on the SB66 alloy nice bike , have consideed the 66c version , rode a medium with a 90mm stem felt huge, so not a good test small would have been similar to the medium SC, I ride a medium Butcher at the moment. My only Yeti ownership was a small Arc with 80mm Fox fork was light and fun, but my back doesn't cope with hardtails.

Rode the nomad c one of the most capable bikes I tested. Climbed very well descended very well.
Rode the lt alloy on the same look after and was blown away by how good that was didn't feel shorter travel.
Trc quick pedal I street felt like a fun bike.

Missus just got the ltc with hope wheels and 32s with a basic built kit and reverb comes in at 13.3 kg with plenty of room for improvement

Transition Bandit seems to be a better all rounder than all the above, but arent Lapierre offering the Spicy as frame only, that would be a good bet too
sorry if Im confusing the issue, when youve narrowed down your choices

If you're looking at bikes at that sort of RRP, you really are splitting hairs, just pick the one that suits what you want from a frame 🙂

Ive owned and ridden more than my fair share and im pretty confident that my TRc is the best trail bike ive ever ridden. But that's for me and i appreciate that they way it rides wont appeal to everyone

Mind you im just about to pull the trigger on a Nomad C too for more rowdy days and also the mega / Trans-Provence (if i get in).

Perhaps a Mojo HD with 2 shocks to switch between 140/160 would have been more cost effective.....

This post really doesnt help does it 😀

Update on my bike ended up buying a 6 month old Blur TRc, so far its a great bike, climbs well especially techy stuff, and goes down hill and corners like its on rails , having to to recalculate my mind 😀
