On my new bike the front wheel is about 0.7cm closer to the fork on one side than the other (towards the disk side)

I don't want to fiddle if this is by design but I cant think it is.

Thoughts?

QR?

Make sure there's no paint drop in the dropouts.
Make sure you have the wheel in straight (weight on the wheel before tightening the QR).
Try putting the wheel in the "wrong way" round and see if the clearance moves to the other side.

If it's still not right, back to the shop.

thanks. yes QR. pulled the wheel off and put it back on and its much better but not fixed...

whoever built this bike must have been a ham fisted butcher

the wheel won't go on backwards as the spokes him the caliper

I will probably tru it up myself

Take the caliper off and retry.

At least that way you can rule out any problem with the dropouts and axle.

Probably a shoddy PDi, take it back to the shop, 10 minute job to adjust the dish
