given the fact they are both available online for £100.00 which one is best.

i know xt has been as good as it gets but would the new slx be a better option or is xt still the best for the money.

If you mean the XT on Merlin, a bloke I work with bought one and immediately sent it back because the outer chainring was so massive his bike looked like it had 3 wheels.

Do you care about weight? If so the xt might be lighter. If you're not counting grams then slx.

does the XT not have a carbon fibre and steel middle ring? Which will last longer? Or does SLX have a fully steel middle ring?

Me, for the same money XT any time. I've not trashed the alloy threads in the XT's I have yet.

If you can get either at same price then XT is a no brainer IMHO. If you prefer the look of SLX then go for it. Have a look at Shimano site and you can compare specification but XT is obviously a "superior" product given you can get either at the same price.

shimano site has them on a level pegging.the spec & reviews would suggest shimano are talking themselves out of selling the xt
