[Closed] New build ... Weight Weenie Beone

Where to start .....

I have an uncanny ability to build heavy bikes even from lightweight parts 😳

As such I was still surprised when my DJab (Now sadly sold 🙁 ) weighed 24+lbs.

Sooooo I saw that this frame had come up for sale and was in almost new condition. A deal was struck and I had 1083g frame .... surely a light build could be achieved ....... 😮

I've built this with as little additional outlay as possible. I have used much of the build from the Djab, a splattering of ti bolts, carbon bits etc. I did have to source a new seatpost and I decided as its currently a 1x9 to go with a larger chainring.

Not ridden in anger yet as have been super busy but will be out on it soon .... fingers crossed.

I have a final bit of fettling to do then will weigh it out of interest. I would like it to be about 20lbs 😕

➡ So pics .....

Mmmm Hot melt carbon 😉 :

Looks lovely!

For proper weight weenie'ing, I'd drop the Reba and the Thompson post for something a bit lighter, but on the whole, very nice!

I'd forgotten how pretty the Flite saddle is.

+1, and the wheels (unless they're XRC330 rims?), and you could do better on the saddle

Nice: yes, weight weenie: no.

Decent frames those, a friend had a sub-19lb Be-One Blue a few years ago, was very nice.

I have used much of the build from the Djab

realistically it'll be the frame weight difference lighter then 😉

it looks nice though and the main thing is how it rides, anyway.

Lawn needs a trim and the path could do with a jet wash and repoint!

Looks good and light enough.

I was surprised that nearly a 1lb was saved by changing:

Grips, bars and rotors.

Fairly small outlay but significant weight saving

I should add that at circa 97kg many weight weenie bits are out of grasp ( i.e. the sub 85kg stuff)

Are they Hope hubs? You could definitely go lighter there, Hope's are quite a heavy hub

They are.

Currently looking into the possibility of having some AtoZ hubs built into some Arch rims - should save maybe 200g.

That said the above build (with careful shopping around and buying used) has cost circa £1000 so I don't want to go crazy with the spending 😆

Go for Crests or Arch Ex rims.

Both heavier than my £300 A2Z/Podiums though 😉

I know it's de rigueur to comment on the background on all bike pics and
I get that, I really do. What I don't get is this obsession with making things look like new. It's a garden. A bit of moss here and there adds character. Why is everybody so anal about tidyness?

To be fair, I'd be after a fair bit of money for the I9's as they've only done one race and cost me £900. But they're Oh-so pretty in red....

Just look at em...

Both heavier than my £300 A2Z/Podiums though

Just bought myself a wheel jig and some A2Z hubs off of eBay. on it like a car bonnet....

Vintage (but new) 355's - I had to battle with the shop owner to buy them off him, they were in his bike hung on the wall. To be fair, I only bought them because they match my seatclamp and gear cable!

I had the older version of this frame and removed all paint for a full on weenie build. (and I hated the original paint colour)
The frame was re lacquered and came in at 1000 grams

Very good frames

It's weigh an awful lot less without that ruddy great bucket full of water slapped in the middle of the frame.
