Couldn't resist the bargain price on an Aether 9c, but am now shopping for parts and need to confirm:

What length steerer tube do I need (roughly)? Medium frame headtube is 110mm, add a bit for headset, 40mm for stem, add a bit more, 170mm?

Also need dropper advise, I'm 5'9 with a 30" inside leg. Would a 150mm dropper be best, or would I be able to fit 170mm or 200mm?

I have an Aeris9 also in medium (I think both have a 395 seat tube) and have the same 30" inside leg. I've a 150mm dropper with 165 cranks and it's Only got about 5mm showing above the seat clamp so I'd say 150 is your limit. Ask the good folks at Bird though they are really helpful

If you know the distance from the bottom bracket to the seat rails on your current bike, ring Bird & ask Ben as he knows all the dimensions off the top of his head.

If you need a 150mm dropper I have one of the Bird ones I need to find a new home for.

I have a 210 on my ML Bird at just under 5'10 so I reckon you might manage a 180 One-up on the medium. Do you know your current BB to saddle top measurement?

Cheers all, I'll measure BB to seat/rails on my current bike and try to calculate it. For some reason I was thinking I'd need to measure tyres and all sorts of stuff, but pretty obvious not!

I'm on a ML Aether 9a at 5'10 (long torso, short legs) and got a 170mm dropper with a little bit of room to spare.

I'm 5'9" with ~31" legs. M/L AM9 with a 170mm Bird/Brand X dropper. Pretty sure it's 420mm seat tube and 170mm cranks.

I’m 5’8 with 30” inside leg (crotch to floor) and I have a 160mm BY dropper (which is quite low stack) & I have 20mm showing with 165mm cranks and Hope pedals. Medium 9c also!

Thanks all, looks like a 170mm (brand-x) might fit, but will confirm once I measure my current bike

I just saw the current price. What a bargain!

Have you seen the big 9c thread on here? It’s worth checking it for the under-BB cable rub prevention trick using cable ties, as well as the note to be cautious about the recessed nut when removing or replacing the main pivot axle.

Oooft, they're some good deals. Lots showing no fork availability though...?

I've not read the post, but will! Thanks for the pointer...

Looks like my frame (which is frame, shock, headset, seat clamp) is in the "build queue" and I have no idea how long it will take. Not a huge issue as everything else for the build is in the post, except for forks as I haven't found any in my budget yet!

Will be a nice trail build with Hope Tech 4's, GX drivetrain, and a decent spec all around for under £2500, and everything brand new (which is odd for me as I've not had a new-new bike since 2004.....)

Might be able to help with that if you're looking for a 140?

If it's in the build queue it shouldn't be long at all.

I don't know what shock you got, but I got a bog standard Deluxe Select+ with mine and found that it benefitted hugely from a MegNeg upgrade. I mention it because Bird also have these at a decent discount 🙂

I went for the deluxe ultimate RCT... Will consider the megneg upgrade once I've ridden it a bit first!

Happy for anyone to drop me a message over 140/150mm boost forks, but condition and service status needs to be top notch! Haha!

Disappointed by the lack of "don't piss in the shower and don't fart in bed" jokes
