The question here is; is it worth it? I’d welcome any advice.
I’ve been offered a TCR Advanced Pro 0 disc built up by an ex pro mechanic with new Ultegra Di2 and dual Giant Pro power, Prime Blackedition 38 carbons, F1 eagle tyres, no saddle and a Pro vibe bar and of course his time - for £3k. Other than the bar and saddle this is the exact spec I’d want right down to the 52/36 chainrings. The RRP on the current off the shelf bike is £4199.
Sounds good? Except I discovered that the frame is the prior 2020 version, so the older shape and less aero and less comfy albeit in the current “fade to black” colour style. Ridden several times, new chain and cassette. Can any TCR owners comment on comfort comparisons?
Is the warranty transferrable?
For £3k I'd want some warranty
It isn’t and that’s a good point.
For the same price I know a shop that has the current TCR with Giant 42’s and 105 - the Advanced Pro 2. I have a 105 4iiii so would have everything I need including the newer frame and a warranty. I’m a bit nervous of the giant hookless rims, although on the plus side this frame gets wider tyre clearance.
I’m a bit nervous of the giant hookless rims,
Why? They serve no purpose. They’re the the bicycle version of an appendix.
Current RRP is actually £5k, if you can find one. So £3k is a good deal, although not cheap enough to make it a no-brainer.
The TCR is a nice bike, light, fast and comfortable. Ultegra Di2 is very nice, much nicer than 105. I'd certainly take the Pro 0 over an Advanced 2.
@daffy, wtf are you on about?
Think I prefer the lime green colour from ~2 years ago, IIRC it was also ~50% of this £3700 "sale" price! 😮
