RS are releasing a new 6" Reverb, which should be perfect for us taller riders. Great.

Well, it would be, but the damn thing is only available in the internal cable routing 'Stealth' version, so it will only work with compatible frames. Oh, and the Stealth versions also cost £330.

Come on RS, this isn't difficult - just produce a 6" Reverb with the cable entry on the lower, non-movable part of the post.

Was thinking about this the other day.. Is it possible to drill a small(ish) elliptical hole near the bottom of the seat tube without casing catastrophic failure and/or death??

Seat tube is the least stressed tube on the frame, I have read.

I imagine the problem with a 6" external dropper is where the funk does the 6" worth of cable go when the post is dropped.

My normal one is bad enough, a 6" one would just be stupid.

The hose is static, fixed at the bottom of the post, it doesn't move.

Are there any frames out there that will actually take a seat post with 6" of drop and the collar?

My 17" Pitch would probably just about do it as there's about 1" of post showing below the collar, but I'm definitely at the taller end of being comfortable on a medium, so on any 18" you'd need to be ~6ft to use the 5" drop post, how many 6ft'ers ride 17" frames?

Or are we going to see designers making much lower slung frames?

you having a laugh?

a 410mm post will drop 11" from full extension to slammed

I'm 5'11" and ride a 14" frame, why have 3" more seat tube and less stand-over when you don't need it?

Can only just fit a 5" KS or reverb into my Heckler frame (Med and 5'9) a 6" version is getting a bit specialist!!

I'm 5'11" and ride a 14" frame

That would knacker my knees as I hit the bar every pedal stroke!

not if the toptube is the right length.

Trek's are a good example of modern setups. The medium there is a 17.5, but actually measures 16.5 so gives plenty of room for droppers. On the other hand a medium Transition Covert is the full 18" which (in my case) gives the right length but bugger all room for a dropper

I'd like another inch of drop for the gnar, and both my frames would allow for it... and I'm probably willing to drill them when the time comes to replace my existing Reverbs. I like progress.

Yep, it doesn't move at all. Nor would it if they just fixed the cable to a collar at the top of the lower part of the post, like the new Crank Bros one (and several others). Only releasing it in a format that requires internal cable routing, which as far as I'm aware is currently limited to a handful of frames, seems a bit bizarre.

Shame - I'm going to be buying a Reverb soon and a 6" drop would be perfect for me.
