Hi guys looking at getting my first full suss mountain bike, the canyons look good value for the money, but have seen a good offer on a trance x2 2012 model £1599. the am 6.0 is £1490 inc del. not sure about the canyon as you are buying blind plus no lbs if you have any probs any advice greatly recived.going for a look at a trance tomorrow so will have to make a decsion soon.
Trance for defenate.. canyon look good but you can test ride the trance and that goes a long way. i have a trance and thinks its great.
Trance is a v good bike, but I gambled on the canyon and not regretted it for a moment. Component spec is v good, but frame is a bit of an unsung hero - climbs well and is v quick on descent. Also feels very stable on the more techie stuff and is managing to get me comfortable jumping (a minor miracle!)
I asked on here for a shot on a Canyon XC and luckily got a real proper off road test ride as result. Not everyone will be so lucky I guess. I ordered one an hour later - arrived within a week.
Apart from that - Canyons generally seem to win on the kit vfm stakes. If the same similar thing is available from a LBS I would go with that 100%
Ultimatley: Canyon have a 30 day test ride policy. You dont like it within 30 days let them know, put it back in its box and get your money back. To me that's proper hard to argue with.
Canyon are great for sorting you out if there is a problem as they have a dedicated uk centre and a very quick turn around. You may be buying blind but Canyon customers benefit from numerous services such as a 30-day right of return which people forget about, a 6 year guarantee, dont see that anywhere else? and crash replacement.
EDIT - All explained above 😀
P.S You might bump into someone to test ride one, they are popping up at quite a few trail centres now and i no longer feel alone 🙂
Do we get a 6 year guarantee? Sweet, hadn't spotted that!
thanks for you input guys, will have to give serious thought to a canyon only trouble is should i go xc or am, iam liking the am 6.0 as it has the axle thru fork and is a 140mm travel bike, but as it is my first full suss am i going to be overbiked?
am i going to be overbiked?
You're riding is totally different to others so it's up to you. I can only say that for a heavy chap (me) chundering around Inners and Glentress the XC is more than enough/capable.
Its a pretty sturdy set of tubes.
As a comparison - I've broken 3 frames - I honestly dont think the Nerve will be number 4.
Spudly,
Yep that was one of many reasons why i chose Canyon 😀 6 years on frame, 2 years for all the other stuff as usual.
''In addition to the legal requirements we voluntarily offer a 6 year warranty on this year's frames and forks for racing and triathlon bikes as well as on mountainbike frames (with the exception of bearing assemblies and suspension forks). Our warranty is valid from the date of purchase and is non-transferable.
All other components are covered by the standard 2 year manufacturer's warranty.''
Morley,
What riding do you mostly do?? remember the AM can drop to 120mm when needed but the XC obviously cant go to 150mm if needed.
Most of my riding is done at trail centres, natural riding and off piste and 150mm is perfect for me.
Trance
I ride mainly local trails and xc on my old merlin malt hardtail, but looking to ride trail centres as my skills improve, thinking the am may be the futureproof way to go. 😆
I just think if shite hits the fan you can always walk the bike round to the shop
instead of frequent e-mails and if things going missing and damaged in the post
Just Who is getting the blame
