Got some new freewheel parts today, built freehub back up,regreased & took bike out for shakedown. 5mins in and put the power down away from a junction & whizzzz... bang... crash. Freehub had completely disengaged and I end up in a heap in the middle of a busy B road picking myself & bike out the road.

Thankfully bike is fine & all I've got is a very sore hip & a forearm that looks like a weeping beetrot thanks to road rash. P*ssed off with myself for rebuilding freehub with too liberal amount of grease which meant star ratchet plates didnt engage when i backed off power to then change gear. Have since taken freehub apart & cleared majority of grease out.

Not entirely sure why i've posted but suppose i simply feel lucky there wasnt a car behind me or oncoming traffic as i ended up on the central road lines. I'd also to advise Roval wheel owners that they're very careful when it comes to replacing the Dt Swiss star rachets in the freehub-less grease is best!

You're not alone. I crashed into the back of a black cab on Tuesday because my brakes refused to work in the wet and I never clean the road grease off my wheels.
D'oh!

Dang!

I guess you probably feel a bit lucky - or something!

I had a motorbike crash in 97 - span through the air thinking - will I hit that van - god NO - not the lampost - only to end up in the road with my chin under a Toyota starlet.

So despite broken bones - I was so happy that everyone else had and had used their brakes. Human instinct from everyone I guess?

Hope you heal well.

Hope you're ok Ben, thank goodness it wasn't worse.

I had a similar experience when, due to a screwed shifter, I changed from high to low gear in one movement and ended up going over the bars in front of my local pub, much to the amusement of the smokers gathered outside at halftime.

Heal fast mate.
