Having just picked my first road bike (for commuting and training)
I have a set of SPD's currently fitted and they work, however picked up a pair of road shoes, as my MTB ones are feeling a little small.

Anyone tried both and have any feedback - i suspect the road ones are more suited to long rides, rather than commuting?

Did 110 miles on Shimano touring SPD's on Saturday, can't say I noticed any discomfort at all, well not compared to the pain in my backside anyway. I've avoided SPD SL's because of my own prejudice on how they look to walk in, I can't offer a comparison. If you do a search, the topic was covered recently.

Were you using the adapters to convert 3 hole cleats to use with 2 hole ones?

The converters are cheaper than new pedals, give them a go.

Shimano SPD-SL cleats are a bit annoying to walk in. I use normal MTB SPDs for commuting. The road ones are nicer on long rides though.
