[#9822849]

Am fed up with the state of my local trails and am thinking of treating myself to a 3 or 4 day break for my impending 50th Birthday somewhere that's hopefully drier with plenty of swooping singletrack. Looking at first couple of weeks of March and have visited tonnes of web sites from which I've highlighted Sierra MTB in Southern Spain. Will be travelling on my own and looking as said sometime early March and wondered if anyone had any recommendations as I've never biked abroad? Not looking for aggressive downhill, but something that gets the heart rate pounding would be good along with a few beers......

Ciclo Montana in Spain, Lavatrax in Tenerife or Freeride Madeira. Those would be my recommendations for early March. Moving into April, I'd add Justride Finale in Finale Ligure to that list.

I went here at the end of last year, its a great place in the mountains surrounding Valencia. I'm in there vid too (The slower rider).

Proper off the grid, adventure style riding, very natural. Also lovely villa, hosts and food.

I was recently in La Gomera (next to Tenerife) on a biking holiday, which I can heartily recommend. We went via Bike Station Gomera in Valle Gran Rey, and it was utterly superb. Great mix of trails, all tailored to the group's ability (with a couple of optional "extra spicy" bits for the advanced riders), great weather, great town for the apres velo. Incidentally, Fabian r guide had moved to La Gomera from Tenerife after various trails started getting closed to bikes.

For flights, ferry, accommodation and guiding/bike hire, it worked out around £600.

If only going for 3 or 4 days then try and minimise the travelling time - I have been with Sierra MTB you mention a couple times (a while back mind) and they are within easy transfers of Malaga airport so no lengthy drive burning into your ride time.

Long weekends a speciality. Arrive on Friday morning, leave Monday evening and you can have 4 days of fully guided biking paying for just 3 nights stay.
As we are just 20 minutes from the airport we´ll collect you and have you on the trails just an hour after arrival.
Excellent singletrack rides with plenty of bus uplift during the day & lively après-bike on the coast at night.

Hi Alan. Do you offer the guiding / uplifting without the accommodation? We have already got the use of an apartment in Mijas...

Thanks Al, currently looking at first weekend in March unless you think it would be better to leave it until later in the month weather wise etc ?

we are looking at going last weekend in April or first in May (maybe 2nd if bank holiday affects prices too much) either way we appear to have just missed the roost and switchbacks season...

Our digs are a little bit further out than i had thought. could really do with an uplift for a couple of days then maybe a big pedal out on the other day.

looks like about 10 mile spin along the coast to the telecabine at Benalmadena.

if you take the telecabine and descend straight back down that 911 or R4 say, how easy is to roll back to the telecabine?

also from the top of the telecabine, can you ride the ridge over towards the Mijas trails?

Riviera Bike do semi-uplifts: http://riviera-bike.com/Mtb

In terms of pure backcountry riding, it's my favourite so far. Proper alpine tech and dry Mediterranean rock gardens above the sea all in the same ride. Awesome food and drink too.
