First ride out yesterday on my new(ly built) Singlespeed Hardtail.

Picked up a lovely condition, lightly used Pipedream Moxie MX3 a couple of weeks ago, and have been collecting bits & pieces for it, finally putting it together over the weekend.

I've ridden SS for years, most recently on a 2017 Ragley BigWig with a BB mounted chain tensioner. But really wanted a dedicated SS frame, and had most of the key parts, so found this ace Moxie. I'd also been considering the Kinesis FF29, but no one seems to have one so it was difficult getting any real world reviews, and besides, it was more expensive and without BB, headset or brakes (all of which came with the Moxie).

Build progress ...

Sadly, yesterday evening, after trying to loosen off the bolts holding in the SS dropouts, I rounded the hex head of one of them, and it's still stuck firm. I don't have the tools, skills or bravery to attempt anything further myself, so will be popping it down to the LBS today to see what they can do ...

Looking good! IMO you can't beat the look of a steel hardtail. That pink is obnoxious and i love it!

Nice - just built a Dawley T16 in “Spring Purple” (pinkish).

Lovely! What. A. Colour. 😎

Despite not currently owning a steel HT MTB (or indeed a SS), I still crave one - the past year's the first time in the past 20 years I've not had a steel HT in some shape or form.

Very nice, the colour is spot on especially against all the autumnal hues.

I'm currently on the SS sidelines due to a dodgy hip which I'm not supposed to put too much force through. I was thinking of sticking gears on it, but I'm now wondering what is the biggest sprocket I can fit to it without it being ridiculous on the road to and from the trails.

Lovely that. Love the pink.

What stem is that (the silver one)?

It's a Gusset I think - pilfered from a mate's spares box in return for a dog crate headed his way for his new puppy arrival this week!

There's a bally'd up yoot locally around work who rides a Surron painted in a similar colour. Surron looks sick, to be fair.

Just saying!

Yours looks ace too 😎

The low profile heads look nice but won't tolerate much torque I'd imagine.  Better to replace with something decent if you occasionally suffer from the fists of ham.

Yup. Definitely ham-fisted on my part, and failure to check/prepare ... I was so keen to get the build finished and get out riding that I didn't check/grease the dropout bolts!

Anything to recommend?

ProBolt- in the flavour of your choosing. That's the "bicycle" range but they do all sorts and they're very nicely made, if a bit pricey.

Could swap those for a button head but may be similarly shallow or a tapered cap head.  Do you know what the bolt size is? Diameter/length/head diameter/head depth? how deep is the hex?

A Ti Flanged Hex would be the ultimate in rounding off avoidance. (Obviously size to suit)

Looks great! Hope it's riding equally well.

Those dropout bolts are the one weak point - I bought some fancy Wera allen keys and a matching torque wrench which solved the rounding problem with cheaper allen keys. However I would like some better bolts, so let me know if you find some sturdier ones!

These are the ones on the Pipedream website: https://www.pipedreamcycles.com/shop/dropout-bolts/

Standards are slipping around here - why hasn't anyone mentioned those minging grips!

Yeah yeah - we know what you - and your ilk - think of those grips! They got put on as they were the only ones I had spare; I did think the teal colour might offset nicely/'interestingly' with the pink, but having lived with it for a few days, and endured even Mrs HTO asking "so, are you getting new grips for it then", I'll admit they're not right!

So, the question is ... Pink grips, or black?

(I think the answer is probably black; I'll not get a pink to match, and they'd end up looking grubby anyway!)

Exactly what I think every time I buy a set of coloured grips but do it anyway, especially if discounted.  And pink grips are bound to be discounted, who the hell would buy pink? 😀. Nice bike though

Any colour grips as long they are equally neon as the frame. Black is too square.

I hesitated and missed out on the pink frame and got green which is so rich. The blue was an amazing colour too. They absolutely nailed the colours for the MX3

Recently converted mine to SS for a more modern take than my old Kona and the combination is great.

I'm pretty sure you can get Deathgrips in matching pink, or pink and black swirl if you're feeling demure.

Absolutely love the look of that! One of the most "right" looking bikes I've seen in a long time!

Still got my pink 456 (although that looks like an 853 Inbred) and it's still not a bad bike it's just newer bikes are better.
