I'm wavering between the following frames:

Transition Covert
Titus El Guapo

I'm tending towards the Transition. Thoughts?

Both great looking bikes. I know people who ride both and love 'em. Would seem that the Transition is a bit harder to peddle. I'd go El Guapo.

There needs to be a wallet warning next to alfabus' photo.

I want that bike...

Not ridden either but if I was taking the plunge, I'd find the el guapo hard to resist at £800!

Bikes don't come any more right looking than that. Always going to play a part in the decision.

So I think looking at the bikes here it's got to be the Covert.

Black or Polished?

Not sure on your conclusion, given that nobody's posted an El Guapo...

Playing devil's advocate here (I liked the Covert myself when I demoed one) - what are the differences?

Travel and geometry are very similar, I think the EG looks every bit as good, suspension wise the EG is a proper 4-bar (IIRC) while the Covert is single pivot/linkage, the Covert comes with a Fox, the EG with a Monarch.....

Above all else, the EG is 899, the Covert is ~1400. Are you at all tempted by an EG with a CCDB and two hundred quid in your pocket?

Right - so an EG with CCDB, two hundred quid in your pocket and a hundred for me.

Where are you going to get a deal like that?

The EG is nice and cheap but will never get admiring glances like the covert will (if that's important to you!). Sometimes it's nice to be smitten with your bike rather than happy that you have saved some money.

I know it's a personal thing and I have a Covert myself, but that Guapo just looks like a pile of sh*t.

Its just butt ugly and wrong in so many ways.

Its probably why its so cheap they can't give them away by the looks of it.

I paid £900 for mine. Pretty sure you can still find the 2011 model at that price - only thing different is the lack of bolt through rear - can't say that has bothered me yet.

The Covert isn't a good looking bike, but it looks like its right, as though it is meant to look that way for the type of riding it's capable of.

The El Guapo, which is a crap name anyway, just looks a mismatch of styles and angles,
the cable routing is messy, the lines are all over the place and its just wrong.

Don't mean to offend its just a personal opinion.

I chose the covert because I liked the look of it. If I did a blind test riding (if you could) I doubt I could tell the difference between it and the guapo. In the end it comes down to what you fancy..

I wonder if the price difference is down to the shock? The rp23 is adored in these parts, I don't know anything about the monarch, but doesn't that tell you enough about what it's perceived worth is?
(note you can get the covert cheap so I dunno if price comes into it)

It's every bit as good-looking as the Covert. Which is kind of damnign with faint praise, but regardless, I don' think there's much to choose looks-wise.

Sancho +1.

Resale value probably better on Covert too as Transition is a cool brand, Titus not.

Now for the fork.

Heavy and overpriced for what it is.

dafoxster I took the plunge and went for a Large Black Transition Covert frame at £999.

Edit: Enjoy your new frame, 🙂 I'm sure it'll be great, that's a good price.

Both great bikes, can't go wrong wither way to be fair. But here's my El Guapo before first ride last weekend. Awesome, pedals great and is fantastic on the way down, soaking up drops, jumps and cornering brilliantly. Built up to exactly 31 lb

Have fun with the Covert, post up when its finished

PS hope the photos come out, my first attempt at attaching photos on here...
