Both james and simon( risfuk ) have made me offers on some bits and then not come through with the dosh.

jamesabaldwin said he'd send a deposit on some brakes as he definately wanted them and would pay the rest in two weeks. Then no contact from him for a week with no deposit. Thanks James.

Then simon ( risfuk ) offers me £130 for a mech, cassette and chain which i accept. Then silence for a day and after a probing email I sent I get -
"Sory mate change of plan going to get a clutch rear mech

But thanks and good luck with the sale"

Cheers simon . I took the mech of ebay for you. Dick .

RealMan to the thread...

Having said that the OP looks pretty much like a 'classifieds only' user (although I accept they may lurk a lot). Do people who only use the classifieds deserve as much sympathy as a regular on the others?

I can kind of see where the OP is coming from. If you agree to buy something you should either go through with the agreement or proactively inform the seller that you have changed your mind.

If the OP agreed to hold the brakes pending payment from James and then sold them to the next person who emailed him James would have every right to feel pissed off.

Crikey.

And you're assistant manager of an LBS? No wonder so many struggle.

I kinda agree with the OP too. There's plenty of time to change your mind before you agree to buy anything.

Once you've agreed it's a done deal, you've entered a verbal contract. So many people seem to treat second hand sales the same as they would if they were buying from the high street. It's a bit shady.

I expect restaurants to provide me with washed cutlery. Maybe you have lower standards.

(does that help?)

OP, you posted up here that you were after a pair of shiver SCs, I responded saying I had some, giving you my mail address. You never responded with a yes or no.

Jus' sayin'....

Classifieds can be a bit hit and miss. Most of the folk I've had dealings with are lovely.

As to the bloke for whom I sat in and ruined a nice sunny day with my family, that wasn't so good, but that's how it is.

Now, shouldn't we all be out riding?

A nastier person than me might say that's what you get for not abiding by eBay rules, karma and all that.

If you think there are a few tyre kickers on this site you want to try advertising on pinkbike

You can get tyre kicked and scammed all at the same time 😯

It happens a lot - why get worked up - did you spend the money before receiving it? Just move on.

yesterday I screamed at a dog that looked at me funny.

Brilliant - I've just snotted a cup of tea!

I hope they both decided to back there LBS's and buy from them instead, thus keeping them afloat and open.............

The sad truth of the matter is bike shops are closing due to Ebay, CRC Merlin etc. - Soon there will be no-one to fix our bikes and we will need to rely on videos via Youtube to face our headtubes / BB's, set-up gears, bleed brakes and cut steerers etc. - Oh and buy / share the appropriate specialist tooling

Good coming from me, AKA Delboy 😉

An offer isn't an agreement of a sale.

No need to aggressively hound a bloke because he back tracked on an offer. Burmaboy sounds like a wangsta.

Got to agree. Would be far more sympathetic if he wasn't a classifieds-only sort of person
