Hope someone can help.
Just bought some 2009 Reba Races 'All Travel' to run at 120mm.
The Rockshox sticker on the box says -
Travel 100mm
Travel Adj - All Travel spacer - 80mm/100mm or 120mm
Inside the box I was expecting to see one spacer in the plastic bag with the manual - but there's two. Hhhmmm.
I checked the stanchions thinking they may be already set to 120mm - but no, 110mm measured with nothing in the -ve air and 100psi in the +ve.
So I strip the forks down and get to the 'removing the spacer' stage but there's no spacer to remove!!!!
Any ideas??
Cheers
Pretty sure only the Maxle Rebas are 120mm, all others are 100/80.
yup, they dont make it very clear though on their website. Only 120mm maxles can be lowered.
Also expected to get 120mm for my Team's. Rang up 10 different shops/mechanics without a clear answer, then got a reply from Rockshox distributors in the UK, which explained that 100mm rebas can only be shortened to 80mm.
If you want light 120mm, buying 140mm Revolutions and dropping to 120mm might be a better bet.
I'm in the same boat - looking at seeing if I can take my 2009 Reba SL to 120mm from 100mm. I have 2x spacers in the box, but am guessing they're for reducing to 80mm?
Is what we're saying that it's therefore not possible to take the regular (QR) Rebas up to 120mm?
Thanks in advance for your help .
Any aftermarket '09 dual air Reba with no all travel spacer fitted = 120mm travel
You may have a OEM fork? Internals could well be different and set to run at 100mm max maybe...
It was bought fairly recently from On One - it's the Reba SL 100 from this page. They do say they're All Travel, but that it's 80 / 100mm. It's not a gripe whatsoever - I bought them wanting 100mm, but am thinking if they could run at 120mm it would be great.
Forgive my (complete and utter) ignorance, but if there are 120mm ones - the Maxle version, by the looks of it - what's going to be different other than more / less spacers inside? Like I say, I'm ignorant to this! ๐
This is a frustrating situation. There's so much conflicting information.
Assuming your forks are NOT OEM then they should be able to be adjusted to 80/100/120.
How far did you strip them down? Some managed to get the air spring out of the top of the upper without removing the lowers but I couldn't so I removed the lowers completely and removed the air spring from the bottom of the stanchion.
Once removed, there was a spacer on the shaft which I removed to increase the travel to 120mm.
Like you when I received them I had two spacers in the box. Also like you, there was 110mm of stanchion on show with no air in the chambers.
It can be done if they are factory spec forks. Ignore what the distributors tell you, they are wrong. Phone TF Tuned if you want proper advice.
Doddy at MBUK used TF to change the travel on his

Thanks BoardinBob. Very interesting indeed. I've not dared even start on it - my ham fisted mechanic's skills are not quite up to it - it was just an idea I had whilst riding this morning. I'll drop TFT a line, I think - especially after reading the bikeradar piece.
So have you successfully taken yours to 120mm?
I don't even recall if mine came in a box and what was on it if they did... maybe they did and I've moved an old pair of forks on in it. I've found the manual in the bag with the two black spacers (that look about 20mm each) and a zip tie but the section in there on 'Changing Travel (non U-Turn models)' says to look at the website, and I can't find anything on there.
I've got some 2007 or '08 Reba Races, they came from Merlin in a brown cardboard box so I assume that they're OEM. They're 100mm out of the box.
I was under the impression that I could shorten them to 80mm or lengthen them to 115mm. The forks came with a manual and one spacer (so I assume that I can at least shorten them). Would I be able to lengthen these forks or is it just a case of stripping them down if I want to and seeing if there's a spacer to remove?
There's a bit about All Travel configuration on the SRAM website here but it's a single picture on page 55 of a whopping great manual and it refers to Rebas with no spacer being 115mm which I think was older models like mine.
Gone to the hills - Yes, I've successfully converted mine to 120mm.
Even with removing the lowers, it's a half hour job.
cool - ok. I've emailed Mr Doddy, as per his suggestion on BR, but I'll now investigate the manual that I've downloaded that tells all about lowers removing. Thanks for your help / inspiration!

This is the way to do it. I wasn't aware there were OEM forks around without the 120mm option?
Serviced mine (2005 forks)earlier this year and just popped the black plastic spacer out to convert the forks to 115mm.
