so this week while riding to and from work on the commuter i notice an annoying clicking noise coming from the bike
quite loud too
so i get home and while i cant notice anything visually obvious, i then decided to eliminate all possible causes
the noise seemed to happen when putting the power down on the drive side cranks
pedals off, cleaned and inspected
cranks off, cleaned and inpected
bottom bracket off, cleaned inspected and regreased
front and rear mech cleaned, inspected and regreased
chain, cleaned, regreased and inspected
cassette off, cleaned and inspected
freehub cleaned and inspected
front and rear hub cleaned, bearings cleaned, inspected and regreased
spokes and rims checked and nipples adjusted
headset cleaned, regreased and inspected
seatpost and saddle off, cleaned, regreased and inspected
all other bolts removed, cleaned and inspected
disc brakes cleaned, inspected and reset
every component was given a thorough once over and refitted and it still made the horrible clicking noise
i even checked the frame and forks
then i figured out what the culprit was.....flippin battery pouch!!
still the bike got a proper home service and running sweetly, although its covered in shit again from a wet commute yesterday
anyone else had anything similar?
I had a similar experience. Even knocked the headset cups out and copper slipped them. Still the creaking persisted.
Stripped the frame again, clamped it by the bottom bracket shell, inserted a brush shank up the headtube and twisted. CREAK. Bore scope down the top tube showed a nice internal crack.
New bike time shortly followed.
Yep. Everything was checked and I mean everything*. Thrice!
Turned out the owner had a pedal come loose and fall off (stuck to his shoe) a fair few miles from home and instead of calling a taxi or walking the guy cycled all the way home using just one crank. It must have damaged the axle/spider interface on the HT II crankset or something similar.
Replaced and all was well...
*shock, fork, hubs, pivots etc.
One ride I had a tap tap tap noise, kept stopping and checking, taptaptap, stop and check, taptaptap.. was driving me nuts all the way through the ride, taptaptaptaptap...
It was two one pound coins in my pocket... ๐
I had it. Really loud clicky/cracky noise when a bit more power was put on the pedals... I discovered there was a single "click" every time I undid the rear quick release - the noise seemed to appear near bottom bracket. I was getting really depressed with the fact my frame was cracked somewhere!
One day I put a drop of chain lube on rear drop outs before re-installing the wheel... The frame wasn't cracked anymore! ๐
Was touring in Iceland on a newly built bike. Had this annoying clicking sound which I thought was from my wheel, unloaded all my panniers by the side of the road, bike upside down, rear wheel off, couldn't figure it out. figured it out eventually, it was the bloody cable end of the front mech sticking out and hitting the drive side crank on each pedal stroke, grrrr!
it's your knees
Wednesday night - I spent a 2 hour night ride thinking my BB was on its way out (creak in time with pedaling), only to discover when I get hope that the velcro straps on my overshoes have given up the ghost and were flapping against the seat tube. ๐ณ
Fixed with scissors......
Had similar on my hardtail a couple of years go - creaking/clicking sound whn pedaling - I checked everything, about 4 times.. then out of despiration, swapped the pedals and the clicking stopped.
Yep-stripped the front end of my bike out trying to trace a click-turned out it was a zip puller clacking against a camelbak chest strap buckle.
No clicking in my case....
Pace 305 SS
While riding and upto speed there was a vibrating sound, Of course there are no cables could cause this and I checked over the bike, bolts were nipped etc.... I couldn't find out what it was......
Lived with it till I got home, went to check the pad springs and there it was, rear caliper, a small stone resting on top of the pads nestled in nicely between them and the retaining bolt
๐ had a little giggle.....
