Oh, yes, I know they're better than symmetrical beam lights: I've been using four different B&M lamps (Cyo 60, Lyt, Luxos U and Cyo Premium 80) for the last 4-5 years. It's just that the IQ-X seems a little odd to me because the nearfield illumination appears to be so broad and bright; you just don't need that above walking pace (nor indeed want it if it even vaguely starts to overpower the distance illumination).
The near field isn't anywhere near as broad as the Luxos U.
How did you find the Cyo 60?
Adequate or worth an upgrade?
I've ordered the (Cyo 60) IQ Senso Plus, but have a month to change my mind.....
I'm about to go from a 25 lux Lyt Sensor to a IQ-X, should be a nice change! Oh, and dynamos FTW, obviously...
Nice bike and thanks for all the dynamo info folks! Will be sorting something before next winter.
How did you find the Cyo 60?
Adequate or worth an upgrade?
Both, actually. I used the 60 for nearly 3 years and it was fine. But the Premium 80 is definitely a worthwhile upgrade: you get a bit more light at distance but also much more coverage. It's the best bang-for-your-buck dynamo light out there, I think.
Did the OP ever say where the dynamo cables emerged at the top of the fork? I couldn't find it on reading through. I saw the method for fitting but not what hole they came back through.
Thanks
"Also, for the doubters and weight weenies, try charging your phone off your battery operated lights. For 10 days in a row..."
Can just do that in the hotel room each night, no?
"The SON was supposed to last forever, but turned out to be very German, i.e. over-hyped and under-engineered. And unfixable."
Is this true? The dynamo acolytes never mentioned this! 😯
Can just do that in the hotel room each night, no?
No. We camp. 🙂
Hence in my OP I referred to towing a trailer. That's where the camping gear goes. 🙂
Camping is where it's at for touring 🙂 (and drop bars)

You carry more kit than i do when im car camping 😉 that said i did splash out recently on an msr kitchen delux kit. Recently.
Game changer.
Simon, I think we carry a bit more kit than you
LOL, yes! Although I have a front rack & panniers arriving at the shop on Monday. I probably wont carry much (if any) extra but it'll let me spread the weight around and leave some space for shopping (beer / wine)
(I am jealous of your chairs though)
Those chairs are ace. We've had them 15 years. They're the kits to convert your sleeping mat into a chair, so not too heavy or bulky. I've never been able to sit on the floor in comfort, it hurts, so I need something and those are perfect. We can sit in the tent all night playing cards and drinking beer in comfort if the weather is poor.
Trail Rat - I bought that MSR kitchen kit for Mrs PP for Christmas. She loves that sort of thing and has been planning what else she can fit in the case - Sauces, herbs, cutlery etc.
