I ordered a headtube badge from Jen for my Obed seen as Litespeed only saw fit to use a sticker 🙁

Got a nice e-mail last night from her with this picture attached. It's not quite ready....... but nearly there 🙂

Can't wait 8)

Think of all that weight over the sticker....

Hand made from sterling silver 8)

It should be the finishing touch to my favourite bike 🙂

Can't recommend Jen enough, she made it from scratch from a pretty rough sketch I sent her.

Considering the cost of having something like that made, I'm curious as to why you'd want to spend money on promoting the brand of a bike you've already paid loads of money for? Why not have something original and more personal?

If I bought a bike with stickers that can be removed, they'd be coming off straight away. Much neater that way.

I really like the Litespeed badge and thought it would be more orignal looking on the frame.

I initially tried to buy one from Litespeed but they;ve stopped doing them.

The stickers on the bike hardly stand out anyway. They are like a greeny / grey colour against the matt Ti frame and very understated.

It's turned out even better than i'd imagined, I'm over the moon with it 🙂

Jen only had my rough sketch to work off as well.

It was £114 all in including the delivery from America to Isle Of Man.

It no doubt sounds like a lot, but the amount of time and work that Jen has out into it; I thought it was worth it.

It'll look pretty cool on my Obed 8)

I can't speak highly enough of Jen to be honest.

Very nice, are you going to glue it on or some other way? I'd be scared of it dropping off mid ride and losing it

That's the bit i'm having a dilema about 🙁

I believe that the 3m sticky stuff is pretty good.

Be very careful. I had a custom head badge for a while. Not any more 🙁

Fair enough. It does look nice.

£114 is a lot of money though! Does anyone do this in the UK? Bit cheaper?

As for gluing: I assume you're sticking Silver to bare Ti? Consider Araldite Rapid Steel. Really tough stuff. Try and get a bit o advice off adhesive experts though; there may be some weirdness with Silver and Titanium...

I think there is a fella in the UK that does head tube badges, not too sure of his details though or if he's any cheaper.

I went with jen as she was highly recommended by loads of people. having a look at her website, she's done loads of interesting and cool badges 8)

Yeah it's going to go on a bare Ti frame thats a dull matt finish. I want to make sure I get it right, I don't fancy the thought if it dropping off on a ride 🙁

Maybe 3m isn't the answer then 🙁

I'll ask Jen about fitting it once it arrives. There must be a few people who've fitted them to a Ti frame.

Its quite nice. But I'd find it very hard to justify paying that much for something "nice" with no function whatsoever for my bike.
That's just me, though.
I bought a Yeti so I don't have to waste* money on such adornments

I'm just a bit of magpie 🙂 lol

I wouldn't have paid £10 for a mass produced Litespeed badge.

It's that fact that it's been handmade that turns me on 8)

Yep, can't say I get it either. Had you gone for something remotely custom I can understand, but just replicating the logo 100% seems very odd!

As long as it makes you happy!

It's a great fella called Geoff (gemo@f2s.com) and goes by the name of uphilla on here

He does a good range I think but his are not silver and cost £16 IIRC

Some of his handy work (he did these from decals I supplied)

It's a bit of a mixture between the old and the new badge.

The newer badge just has the crest without the 'world cup' colours.

I wanted to keep the newer badge and wanted to add colours to it as well 🙂

Nice.

Jen did me a On-One for my Ti cx bike as it came stickered up Planet X.
[img] [/img]

I used some permanent Stix2 craft pads from HobbyCraft and it has been ridden in all weathers and bounced about on rock hard bridleways and hasn't budge at all.
I got mine done when the exchange rate was very good between the dollar and the Pound so it wasn't to bad 😀

I definitely, definitely wouldn't have an On-One badge made!

T'would be like having Primark emblazoned all across your jacket or something...

Yep. T'would be like spending loads on a Trek, Spesh or any other mass-produced bike company badge. At least Litespeed do hand-made bikes.

I'd have my own design made up. Would be nice for a little bit of personalisation. The OP's design at least has a little bit of originality, and colour.

Well i'm happy with it, it's a bike that I like and ride most of the time. I buy bikes that fit and handle well not for what name is on them.

Most/all bikes are hand-made, aren't they? On-Ones certainly are.

If you're worried about the badge coming off, wrap a cable tie around the badge and headtube 😉

So why spend money on having a custom head badge with the manufacturer's name on then? ❓

I buy a bike that does the job for me. I buy a drill that does the job for me. They're just tools for the job.

I have a Bosch fridge. It's great. I have no desire to spend money on a 'Bosch' silver badge...

Yeah, right, as much as Fords are...

V nice, it's grown on me since seeing this thread this morning. The cost actually increases it's desirability. It's some serious hand made jewellery for your bike and passion, I get it 😀

As for affixing, and decent epoxy (2 part epoxy, i.e. Araldite) will be sufficient. The key is good preparation of the surfaces to be bonded. Do not shy away from this.

Properly de-grease the surfaces, abrade them, clean and and de-grease them again. Then epoxy and you'll be right as rain.

Thanks for the heads up on this Jon, I want to make sure that I get it right.

It'll hopefully be arriving in the next 10 to 14 days depending on the post from America 🙂

Very nice - it's the painted sections that elevate it for me. I think I paid roughly £100 for having the sterling silver Independent Fabrication badge, and I don't regret it at all.
Hope the gluing goes to plan.
Enjoy!

I used the double sided rear view mirror pads from Halfrauds and have had no problems with them coming off.

A phrase involving poo and blankets springs to mind 😯

I suppose putting my own face on it would have scared off and thieves 🙂 lol

Shame they didn't show the finished badge to see the likeness though.

Alex, I am right in thinking that the IF badges are bolted on?

Someone else had mentioned to me about 3M sticky pads. Once the badge turns up, I'll give Jen a shout and see what she thinks. It was getting sent out yesterday from USA, so hopefully it should arrive in 7 - 10 days 🙂

Still my favorite, got it all Italian colours, stars for the Brooklyn connection and the Olympic rings. I've taken it off as it needs some TLC and I can't decide if to do it myself?
