This has bugged me for ages but I'm too lazy to do anything about it...
I come back from a ride, plug the Edge into the computer and see where I've been. When I'm done I put the computer to sleep ('tis a mac mini so uses buggerall power and I'm too lazy to turn it on and off all the time). The GPS sees the computer has gone away so turns off; the computer thinks "ooo! USB activity!" and wakes up again. Basically, whenever I plug the GPS in to the computer I have to put it to sleep twice to get it to stay that way.
This is actually quite annoying.
Does anyone know if you can turn the Edge off while it's plugged in? You can turn it on if it's just charging the battery, but I can't find a way to turn it off...
Yours in mild irritation,
Phil
I like the idea the Mac thinks something turning off is an activity ๐ Is the Edge a Jobs-approved peripheral ?
can you not change the mac thingy to not respond to usb activity?
what about ejecting it on the Mac or is the Mac scanning your USB ports a switching it on again maybe?
com'on its just checking it facewitter accoount and surfing porn site give the poor thing a break
I tried ejecting it; it doesn't do anything, the GPS still thinks it is attached to a computer.
Doing a bit of research suggests I'm stuck with it - you can't turn off wake-on-a-particular-device or even wake-on-any-usb-happenings-at-all on a mac, slightly annoyingly. Admittedly if you could I'd then whinge about not being able to wake it up by wiggling the mouse. I can't win!
unplug the gps ๐
I'm a PC and staying off when I'm switched off was my idea.

Just get set it to dim the display instead of going to sleep. On the upside it will fix your problem and will be ready for use even quicker than coming out of sleep. On the downside, uses more electricity, kills the earth etc...
