I was watching HitUK (yes, on freeview) with the kids, 2 girls 9 & 7 and lad 4. Suddenly felt uncomfortable due to continuous stream of semi-naked super slim women and implication of frequent rumpy pumpy. I felt uncomfortable as I wondered what my girls were making of this. Is it going to register as some ideal shape they need to achieve or behaviour they need to follow to be cool with their mates. There has been a bit of a ho-ha about zoo and nuts mags etc portaying women as bubs on legs. Nothing said about music videos that are broadcast all day. Yes, before you say it I can turn it off but it's music for crikeys sake. Or am I worrying about nowt?

But being the father of a girl(now 27)the infuences of whetever generation have to be tempered and explained by parents.
Girls of 9 & 7 will start to want to dress like their star heroes which is fine at home but may not be appropriate up the high st!!!
Just wait till they hit 12/13....then the fun starts.
The vids are bad, the lyrics are bad(once translated)but have a look at the content of some of the magazines aimed at your daughters age group and above, that`ll open your eyes and educate you 😈
Yup I'm 'only' 29 and I do find it quite shocking.
I organise community festivals etc and we sometimes have local dance groups perform - some of the young girls groups' clothing, make up and dance moves are truly shocking and very inappropriate.
here you go... im 20 and as much as i enjoy it, i do find it a bit too much, more the fact that i know a lot of much younger kids are watching this kind of stuff. plus even the lyrics of the songs sometimes, recent song by lilly allen - not fair
i think that is awful that its being played in the charts for anyone to hear when really its pretty dirty.
My 6 year old has asked her mum what Lily Allen is complaining about. 'It's her boyfriend, he's very selfish and doesn't like sharing'

Funny; people will refuse to give their kids junk food, but let them listen to junk music. Lily Allen? The music equivalent of a McDonalds. Cheap, crap and of no real substance.
Of course the videos are trashy but why did you think a channel designed for adults would be appropriate for 9/7/4 year olds?
My 2 year old particularly likes the current Katy Perry vid. I found it a bit uncomfortable, she looks a bit like a living sex doll.
Rockhopper: My 7&8 year old girs love watching music vids but like you said they now both dance like they work in some night club on stage!! I went along to collect them from the summer disco and was shocked to see my two on the dance floor grinding away....!! Shocking!!!
I was going to say don't worry, and that things were the same when I were a lass - Madonna's 'Erotica' and Blonde Ambition tour, teen magazines having sex advice and position of the month.
With little girls, companies quickly realise that that they don't want things aimed at their age group, because little girls desperately want to be 16/17/18. Hence why Bratz dolls are dressed like lapdancers and you can get thongs and padded bras for 8 year olds.
Then I remembered that, as I've mentioned before, 9 girls at my school got pregnant between the ages of 13-15. ABANDON ALL HOPE!
Seriously, I don't know what the answer is. Kids come under a huge amount of peer pressure - I was bullied because I didn't drink, didn't smoke, didn't wear makeup at school and didn't have sex with guys in their late 20s.
Most of the girls I knew put their entire self-worth in how attractive they were to the opposite sex over anything else. There's no magic formula as to which kids will 'fall' either - the girls that got pregnant came from a range of homes - broken homes, chaotic homes, loving middle class homes - and from the different 'ability' groups (A stream, B stream, C stream...don't think there were any from the D stream, mainly because the D stream was all boys!)
Just keep an eye on them, and don't stand for any nonsense! 😉
Music vids have been 'raunchy' for a very long time with certain rappers actually using the services of porn stars for 'realism'. Not a big deal as they are obviously aimed at young men/boys but the imagery, lyrics and how much they actually affect the decisions of kids of both sexes is debatable.
Certainly nothing new, look at the outcry and banning of Elvis Presley etc. and that was 50 years ago.
And parents cringing while watching tv with their kids is nothing new either. We (and they) all survive with the right guidance 😉

Life is full of unsavoury influences, I guess it's up to the parents to steer their kids through it and let them know that you don't need to be a rake/promiscuous/alcoholic/treat people like poop to enjoy life...?
It isn't new - I remember my mate's 6 year old kid sister singing along to 'Girlfriend in a Coma' and shocking his parents.

If my daughter asked a question we answered it as truthfully as we could, no matter what her age. Worked for us.
We were not that bothered about swearing either, consequently it lost (never had) its "shock" value and she seldom uses it.
Its not sexual content that particularly bothers me, sex is natural and something everyone hopefully ends up enjoying, its the fascination with "celebrity" and "fame" and that the only way for women to achieve anything and be noticed is to get their bangers out.
Yes. I don't really watch music videos, and every time I see them, I'm pretty amazed at what's broadcast.
I also find what's rated as a 12A pretty incredible too. Casino Royale was an incredibly violent film. Speaking as someone who's had his fair share of fights and seen a fair few violent films, the fight scene in the toilets at the beginning of Casino Royale is very graphic and pretty realistic. I didn't enjoy it at all, and if I'd taken a kid to see the film, I'd have been very angry. Ten or twenty years ago the film would easily have been an 18.
Can't comment on music videos, but Casino Royal, yes I agree it should have been a 15 not 12A. When I went to see it at the cinema, there was a guy 2 rows in front who had taken his young (10/11 ish) son to see it. I could see him almost literally squirming in his seat at the very violent bits, because he knew it was too much for a child of that age. I think other people at the time said similar things.

That is probably a different topic about ideals, and image portrayed to be acceptable.
the thing is if you ask the kids what they see in the videos it's very different to what you perceive as an adult, have a conversation with your children next time YOU feel uncomfortable about a video and see what the outcome is.

It's about whats implied, shown and the effect on the viewer.
Bambi's mother was shot in the opening sequence, still a kids film? The reason is you're supposed to feel sorry for her. In Bond th egood guy doesn't nececeraly enjoy killing people and you never actualy see any violence, watch it closely, you you ever see the moment of impact of most of the blows? It's implied that he hit him, but often you dont actualy see it.
Other examples
1st series of Spooks, someone gets their head held in a deep fat fryer, but you never actualy see it, and the person doing it is definatley 'bad'.
Human centipied, BBFC said it was utterly tasteles but allowed it as the viewer was expected to empathise with the victims.
Human centipied 2, banned, as the 'bad guy' is shown to be exited by the whole thing, and the story focuses on this rather than the victims escape.
