Just got some guards for my Arkose, fitted rear fine, but on fitting the front guard ive noticed there isnt a hole in the carbon fork crown to bolt too .... any ideas ? .. So far I have 2 stays holding it in place either side but no fixing at the top of the guards ... Let me see how your guards are attached if you have the same bike ... or any other ideas please
there was some info on this thread:-

(page 6 too I think)
but I'd love to see some photo's too.
Underneath the fork crown is a bolt, you need to remove the mudguards 'L' bracket and enlarge one of the holes to fit this bolt. Then just bolts up to crown and rest of guard fits as normal.
Figured it out on mates arkose the other day
@ Lummox , no bolt holes under the crown !
Just carbon ??
Ok, that's confusing, just to be clear I'm meaning in between the tyre and bottom of the fork crown?
Mine is the same re no hole and I'm also confused!

See no bolt holes !! ... how the fluff am i supposed to attach top of guard ? ..ideas please ... Jameso to the forum please 🙂
Drill 4mm holes on the 'shoulders' of the guard each side, about 15mm apart and zip ties around the crown of the fork might work?
Out of interest, what size guards fit under the crown?
Thanks but not having unsightly zip ties around the fork legs , will look crap !
Guards are 28-45 if that helps , nice snug fit 🙂
Starting to think the forks are now faulty, not supplied with correct holes etc
This is the model we fitted them too, is yours a 2014? Maybe they weren't featured on that year?

@Lummox ... yeah 2014 arkose 3 .. it has the inserts/boltholes for guards halfway up the fork blade but nothing at the fork crown ??
I was looking at these the other day. None of them have forks with bolt holes. Not sure if the fork spec changed mid-year or something but they are all the same.
Unless you want to drill a hole in the fork somewhere, zip ties will be the only solution.
Surely then if theres not holes in the crown then the fork is unsuitable for its intended purpose .... ie having mudguards fitted ... and if im honest , no good to me !
You'll be riding a CX bike with guards, this is not the time to become an aesthete.
Zip ties are the way to do it or else one of those 3M VHB adhesive pads you use for fitting Go-pro mounts, but it'll be a sod to get off come summer...
@ Cookeaa .. Nothing wrong with wanting your bike to look nice ? ... surely this is part of the reason we spend so much money on them ?
zip ties will look crap ... I had thought about double sided tape as well ... may be the only option
Ill wait and see what jameso says ? ... is it correct or not .... then go from there 🙂
Looks like you have the 2014 model which has a bolt in the front of the fork for the L bracket to fit into.
Stumpy, we had a delivery of these w/o holes under the crown. They've been reduced to reflect that, but if you didn't realise when you bought it then no probs, we'll have some spare forks or can swap it. You'll need to talk to the shop to do all that but shouldn't be any issue to sort.
Hi Jameso, thanks for getting back to me, i had no idea the bike hadnt got the hole in the crown, yes the bike was reduced to £900 from the 1k price but thought that was a sale price as the others in the range had been reduced as well ? ... no mention of reduced price due to not havin certain bits fitted ??
I bought the bike mail order not through a shop, so whats the best way to sort this , can the fork just be posted to me for me to fit or do i have to take it to a shop ?
or even better can you source me a bright green frame/fork in exchange ? 🙂
I've just ordered a 2014 Arkose three at the discounted price. I've seen the notes about mudguards and am happy to bodge one on with cable ties considering the price I've paid.
Any tips for doing this? Recommended guards?
phy7tes
Yours may come with the hole in the crown ! ... Ive still not bothered to send the forks back and just used thick double sided tape to secure under the crown, seems fine although ive just bought some extra strong velcro stuff to try as well next time 🙂
Thinking of changing the frame/fork anyway as dont like the color !
Edit ... im using axiom reflex guards and work and fit a treat
Any tips for doing this? Recommended guards?
"with the Bontrager NCS guards you can unscrew the top mount from the guard (not riveted like SKS) then simply run a couple of zip ties. Actually looks fine, perhaps even better than the proper way!" - From one of the Evans shop mechanics.
Thanks for the advice guys, really looking forward to getting my first non mtb!
Jameso it was your contributions to this forum that made selecting this bike really easy. There's no way that somebody could care as much as you do and not produce a great product!
Cheers
Thanks phy7tes. Hope it lives up to expectations : )
It is a crackin bike, ride it more than any other bike I have now 🙂
Just fitted a rack as well and got some panniers for a spot of touring later in the year as well
My Pickenflick has the same sort of fork. I was 50/50 about drilling up vertically under the fork and using some sort of insert. What I currently use is some of that 3m stuff glued under the fork. I use normal SKS full guards. You may have to match the profile of the guard to match the fork so that you get a good match of the two bits of 3m. It will peel off in the summer.
On the left I use a bit of right angled Mechano from the caliper bolt for the lower guard mount and on the right I use a QR type guard. Race blades or Long blades I think.
Still tempted to drill though.
Yours should come with a bolt under the fork crown. I drilled out the bracket on the top of the SKS longboard guards and ran the fork crown bolt through one the of the leftover holes and into the fork. Works a treat and keeps the guard tucked up in the fork.
