Right because roadies look at you funny for having the plastic splash protector behind your cassette I took mine off whilst cleaning yesterday. I'm a competant mechanic and build my own mtbs.
So I sit down undo the lock ring take the sprockets of lay them out in order with their spacers in a line, clean everything, remove plastice thingy from wheel and put back together same order and tighten.
I now have about 1/2mm of side to side play on the cassette? I definately didn't have a spacer on the inside of the cassette!
Is this normal? or have I done something silly?/ am I missing a spacer?
The bike has doen about 2000miles since new and I was replacing the chain at the time I thought I'd clean it. It may have always had play? It still shifts in every gear perfectly!
You need a spacer behind the cassette, and good supply of Veet
