I am planning on upgrading my old Pariot LT from 8 speed to 10 speed on the back. I know I can still use my existing Bulb hub, but do I need a 10 speed specific rear mech? I have a short cage on there at the moment with a Dual crank up front. Any help muchly appreciated.

I echo the above comments wholeheartedly. Opinions endorsed as fact.

Ahhh its so childish ๐Ÿ™‚

On a serious note......

2 gears is a big jump!
Id recommend getting used to 9 speed first before attempting 10.

Thanks for your comments qtip and clubber, whatever they were.
Should I get a medium or a long cage rear mech then?

Depends what you're running up front. Long for a triple, medium for a double.

What he said ๐Ÿ™‚

Though with the caveat that if you don't run a wide range cassette and the chainrings aren't too different on a double then you can use the short cage

I would be running a normal box standard SLX cassette, whatever that range is.

That could be 36-11, 34-11 or 32-11. Comes in three different sizes IIRC.

I went from 8 to 10 speed earlier this year. 10 speed with the clutch derailleur is fantastic!

What size could I get away with using a medium cage with a 36-11 cassette?

It's not about the size of the chainrings, but the gap between them.

Others on here will be far more qualified to answer this than me, I tend to just go with what 'feels right' at the time.
