After years and years of going to the Lakes we thought we should try somewhere new ๐ณ
On the map it looks like there are lots of bridleways across the moors south of Aysgarth in the Yorkshire Dales, has anyone been there? Would it be a good base for a week's holiday?
Thanks in advance for any help ๐
There are loads of great trails across the Dales. You can ride loads of the Dales from there easily and with a quick drive loads of others.
Here's a couple of rides close by -
On neninja's 1st ride I'ts better to start at Thoralby then you get the tarmac climb out of the way 1st & finish on an offroad descent.
On his 2nd one, don't be tempted to follow the grey bit back into Hawes! It's bridleway but last time we did it (some years ago) my mate struggled to get a smooth line on his Patriot. Might have changed but those boulders would take some moving!
mountain biking from Aysgarth (Yorkshire Dales) - recommended?
YES - as neninja has said there is loads of riding. Lots north of Aysgarth as well. Hawes is a larger place if evening things to do are important. Swaledale has lots to offer too.
Great, thanks - I know I should probably have started to google for routes first, but it's really useful when someone can give "first hand" feedback ๐
Sounds like the non-grey route is the way to go on route 2 (at least for me, I get grumpy if I have to walk the final bit of a ride ๐ ).
In Swaledale (a short drive from Asygarth) you'll find the Dales Mountain Bike Centre at Grinton nr Reeth for cake and lots of route advice.
There are lots of good routes round Reeth - I can forward some gpx files if you use a sat nav or want to view them at a site like www.walkhighlands.co.uk
Cheers, neninja - I think we'll have a look whether it would actually make more sense to base ourselves in Reeth for the week (a non-mtb-friend recommended Aysgarth)! Can I email you re the gpx files later?
Alp_Girl the VB Graphics Northern Dales book has some really good routes in it that cover that area.
