The new MBO season is about to get underway. The first event in Wales is on 26th November at Newchurch near Chepstow. Full details on how to enter here: Black Mountains MBO entry

This will use the MapRun app, which is free to download for Apple or Android and uses the GPS on your phone to record all control points visited.

In case South Wales is too far away, other regional clubs are also holding events throughout the season, details here: BMBO event calendar

My mother in law is staying at ours that weekend, and I haven’t MTBOed for about 10 or 12 years, but this sounds ideal!

Nice one Si. I am slowly getting back on the pedaller. Just need some miles and time in the saddle before commiting to an event. How reliable is the MapRun system now? It really needs to be 100% to be used on competitive events and the last time I used it, it was anything but.

@alwillis you'll be very welcome back!

If you have any questions about MapRun let me know. Here's a link to a quick guide: MapRun Quick Guide

It's MapRun version 7 that you require.

Instructions will be emailed to all participants approximately 2 days before the event. These will include how to download the course. Always best to download the course in advance via WiFi or in an area with strong mobile data signal. You don't need mobile signal during the event, only at the end to upload the final score.

Hi @welshfarmer , I find MapRun incredibly reliable. Have you tried it? I thought the last event you attended was using a different App?

I am slowly getting back on the pedaller.

So no eBike category then? I can't see one?

@Marko there's definitely an ebike category at the top of the dropdown category list.

@si77

Thanks. Looks like I need to register and sign up to see the categories. Never done one before, but I'm interested. Wanders off for a ponder and to find a partner who can navigate 🙄.

Bumping for the weekend crowd.

Ebikes are welcome and have their own class.

Gravel bikes also welcome, but probably not best suited to a couple of the tracks.

This event forms part of the BMBO National League as well as being the first event in the new Black Mountains MBO calendar. Or, it can be ridden as a standalone event.

If you're new to the sport, be aware that all competitors are issued with a paper map at the start. It's advantageous to have a way of fixing this on the handlebars. Specialist map-boards are available from retailers. However, beginners (and some experienced riders) often make their own board with clipboards, bulldog clips and cable ties etc.

Glad to see that maprun is finally starting to be accepted by cyclists.

My mate is running one around the Matlock area tomorrow. If anyone's interested, I'll post some details up

*edit - it's on the link in the OP, but entry is now closed and I'm an idiot, as it's today. This weekend has gone too quick!

There's just a short time left now to enter at the "early-bird" price.

You can enter solo or as a pair (mixed or not).

Juniors (12+) can enter with an adult (classed as a generational pair, "GEN")
