After concluding a very rewarding career in education, my dad would like to undertake a course in mountain bike leadership. As a former headteacher, he's au fait with risk assessments etc, but would like to know which provider offers the "best" course - ie, which is most thorough from a training point of view.
He's based near Cannock Chase, so ideally that would be best, but can travel if necessary.
Has anyone done one of these courses? What did you think?
SMBLA with cyclewise did a course with them last weekend is best. SMBLA is the better scheme and as its a scottish cycling scheme its affiliated to british cycling so hopefully may result in it becoming the industry standard in the future when it may become a UKCC award.
Why dose your dad want to do a course?
The answer to which provider will determine whether SMBLA(the best)or CTC/OTC is his best provider.
If he wishes to venture back into working with kids via LEA/his old employers he needs to check which provider the recognise. Each area authority have their own ideas. If it`s just for him to do during his retirement and own fulfillment then either will do
