erm rear led light in supermarket in france, when we got to check out no price coming up for it so they said just take it, might have been swayed bt the £300+ of wine we had in the trolley at the same time 🙂

M520 spd pedals. Picked some up BNIB for £15 the other day. Almost as cheap as the cleats themselves. Even at that price they last forever and are semi-servicable. Bonkers.

Ton, I doubt it, as no bikes for life, unless your not interested in progression.

...just balancing the scales for them, after several comments against them on another thread 😉

(Not an owner or a fanboi but I understand why they sell)

Gear cables. 2 Shimano inners and a selection of lengths of SP60 outer to suit lots of frames. £5.99 Makes the gears feel like new again. Don't have to go into one of them fancy dan bike shops either.

Any sub £300 bike - as long as you actually ride it.

The health benefits are huge. Money well spent.*

*Of course you may then succumb to a downward spiral of upgrade-itis, to the point where you're riding a £4k monster.

Really, £80 16 years ago was a lot nearer £200 in todays money.

£5 a year and a 5 year life would get you quite a few Gilets, they are not a high wear item.

Gore RideOn cables (full liner set). Fitted once, several years ago, never touched since.
Most of the stuff I bought on the stw forum (although I've not bought much in a couple of years - I hear prices have gone up?!)
Cotic Soda Mk1.5 - obviously it was expensive at £950, but for me it's the last bike I need to own as it's great fun, spot on for size and suits my riding to a T. Plus a replacement now would cost about 50% more, so it's real VFM!

Shimano QRs is a good shout. As are cable sets above.

My vote is for the occasionally derided round here(not sure why) DMR V8s.
Just took a set off my commuter yesterday. They were still going just a bit rattly.
Bought new in about 1998. Never serviced. Daily use since then. About 3000+ miles last year alone.
Now that is value!!

I bought some ssc tools the other day to replace lost/lent out ones; paid £11 including delivery for the same quality (if not the actual same tools) that would have cost me easily £20 as 'Bikehut', 'Cyclo' or 'Fat Spanner' branded stuff.

Pedros tyre levers

They are very good

50w equivalent, 60 smd led GU10 light bulbs, to your door for £2.99 all the way from China.

With 4m + high ceilings and a burn time of 50k hrs, these are a godsend. Let alond the leccy saving with 12 in the kitchen ceiling.

Oh, those pink tyre levers for a bike item... (not the park ones, they are too brittle).

Those hard-to-find bags of Haribo jelly babies- all the jellybabiness of a normal bag of Supermix, but without the weird milkbottles. Rocket fuel of the gods.

And Deore steel chainrings. Cost half as much as products that work no better and last 1/4 as well

lot's of good choices already listed; shimano QR's, and selling another factory wheelset against Hope Hoops must be hard work (as good as the Hope's and only twice the price), pedros tyre levers - carry one all the time

I have a thin bandana thing (that i think i got from singletrack on a stand at the 2001 Schwinn mountain marathon) still wear it all the time

When I think about what conditions they have to work in, under stress, and the sheer number of parts they are made from, I'm always surprised chains cost as little as they do.

My Decathlon gillet, thermal top and base layers. So cheap and still going strong after five years.

Another vote for shimano Qr's

Original Hope Bulb (with bolt on spider), now relegated to the other half's bike.

The Cannondale Beast of the East that I inherited from an uncle.

Original kool tool. Used it a couple of weeks ago when a friend's chain broke.

Shimano SPD pedals - 3 pairs here, all going after many years with no maintenance at all. Splashed on the M540s - they were going cheap at the time.

My Marin hardtail frame. Everything else has been changed on the bike, but frame is original, and has a lifetime warranty. Fit's me really well, don't see a reason to change.

Steel 456 frame. Find something so versatile and good to ride thats cheaper.

Original ti railed flite saddle. Bought cheap in 1997 and still in use, albeit looking a bit tired!

+1 On One 456
+1 for shimano 540/520's

Shimano alfine rear hub ( long lasting 8 speed gear system for <200quid!)
Aldi cycling shoes (or were they lidl, can't remember)
Buff-style thingies that aren't made by Buff or were free

Also impressed with Hope stuff - I have some HopeEnduro 4's which I can still service.
XT rear mechs have lasted me very well over the years (I have one that's 12 years old)

best bargains I have:

Park Tools tyre levers - £2.99 for good strong tools in 'that' blue 🙂
Muckynutz fender bender
Toronto cycles jockeys £8 a set
Wellgo MG1 pedals
new shimano trail pedals M530 - ie M520 with a cage.
Transfil cable sealing kit - £3. Well expensive for some tube but cheap for what they do perfectly.

Does make you wonder about the profit margins however doesn't it..

*raises head above parapet*

King hubs and headsets (not tried a BB yet). They provide a lot of value for a lot of money..... And have a pretty ace warranty, not that I've ever needed to use it. The shinyness helps soften the wallet pain too!

Hope C2 brakes

Endura basic roubaix knee warmers - £14 about five years ago and pretty much indestructible. Still £14 now. Some Endura stuff falls to bits when you sneeze at it, but they did these right.

Wingnut packs / DaKine bladders

Sealskinz

Reba/Revelation

Someone's already said Deore chainrings - can't knock 'em.

Endura 3/4 thermal bibs - just binned mine after around 10 years of regular use, a fine bit of kit.

As above, bottom end shimano spd pedals. Work perfectly and last several years. It's often the same price to buy cleats and pedals as cleats on their own, so I have a pile of them now.

Specialized Nimbus tyres - bought in a pair from wiggle as a deal with tubes about 8 years ago and still going well on my hack bike.
