Want something like a long haul disk trucker with rohloffability - but dont want to use a chain tensioner so an ebb or paragon style drop outs - can i set up a rohloff on slots ?

Must take a rack and full length guards

Must not be a thorn......

Ideally frame and forks circa 3-400

That's not moon on a stick. That's Uranus on a stick.

Older style Carrera Subway 8.

Just discovered these things via a mate who's stupidly happy with his.

Alfine, ebb, discs & complete bike s/h for less than a set of Hope Hoops.
Problem is finding one - for some reason people seem reluctant to get rid.

Day01 looks good but slots again . Maybe an ebb on a 300 quid frame is a bit big ask

Subway is a nice ride, and so is the Trek Soho if you want slots and flat bars.

I thought peregrine when I read your thread title! I'm happy with mine. Give me a shout if you've got any questions about it. Or Sam!

Are you restricted to 700C wheels? If not, what about the Surly Troll - again it's a slot dropout, but there seem to be a few folk Rohloffizing them with an OEM plate, like this guy:

I've got a 1x1 which is pretty much the same geometry and it's a fantastic all rounder.

EDIT - Just checked the Surly website and in fact the Troll has mounts designed specifically to take the OEM plate. The Ogre has the same thing so you could also stick with 700C wheels.

will have to be a 700C as my 29er rohloff wheel is 700c and rerimming a wheel for a big ride is a bit extreme !

a roadrat fits the bill too i think - i guess - other than being ugly ... but it at least looks utilitarian ๐Ÿ˜€

im wanting more of a road/cross orientated machine bits on an mtb frame just isnt working for me dimensions are all wrong !

I sold a roadrat recently, which I'm regretting somewhat - they're great bikes and personally I don't think they're ugly at all but I guess it's down to taste. The frames are very springy though - not so good if you're regularly carrying heavy loads. For commuting they're ideal though. Not sure about running them with a Rohloff though - perhaps drop Cy an email?

I've got a Surly Karate Monkey now which is also great - a lot more rugged than the roadrat and pretty similar to the Ogre mentioned above (although with less braze ons etc) and is highly recommended. There's a fair few KMs around which people have built up as drop bar / cross / tourer frankenbikes, so I wouldn't neccessarily write the Ogre off as being "too MTB" if you want 700c wheels and Rohloff compatibility + versatility.

What about a Charge Mixer?

Takes racks and guards with slicks. Room for decent sized cross tyres (take the guards off first though to give you some mud room). EBB. Discs. Really comfy. Shiny.

Really happy with mine. Not sure if you can buy as a frame only though...maybe second hand/email Charge?

I have repurposed my 29er general for road bike duties. Best thing I ever did - makes for a good all round bike.

Much as I loved my Pompino this is better.

And I'm not limited to skinny tyres. ๐Ÿ™‚

I'm eyeing off my TD-1 for conversion next. ๐Ÿ™‚

No reason not to get a Pompetamine. The Pompinos are a versatile bike and having disk mounts puts the icing on the cake, just like the Peregrine.

My thoughts on owning a Peregrine. It's a really nice bike, but disks are overkill on skinny tyres.

So I sold mine, and moved to a 29er for general use because I can have the choice of skinny tyres with cantis/Vs or fatter tyres eg BAs with disks. And of course if I want to get it dirty I can put put Racing Ralphs on it ๐Ÿ™‚

WIth what I know now, I would have bought the Gryphon to replace the Peregrine, but I just happened to have a spare 29er frame going spare.

Ooh, that Van dessel is lovely, very reminiscent of a Retrotec.
That could edge out the Bryant in my forthcoming commuter build...
