[Closed] "Monster cross" tyres, indulge me?

I have used 40mm wtb nano's on my cx for the HONC 100km and was very impressed and also used them for the Peak District Pioneer 100km (lots of dissused railway) and they were good here also
They will not be too good in the mud as there is limited tread but on mixed hardback they were great.

I use a Specialised Ground Control front, Fast-track rear, both in a 2.0 on the 29er XC bike, decently fast and not too delicate in the Control casing. Really easy tubeless setup as well, if you don't mind weepy sidewalls.

Monstercross is a bit of distraction.

Basically "what tyres for riding my bike on roads, bridleways and trails?" 😀

Big/biggish slicks (2.0 Marathon Supremes) for roads, b'ways and dry trails, knobbies to suit your dirt for the trails when they get wet.

Or compromise, but only you know what the balance of riding is going to be and how much you wnat to give away at each end of the spectrum.

I've been riding my 28c GP4S tourer over the hill on the trails on the way home. The volume means I have to take it easy on the downhills, but grip is not an issue!

I say go for the Marathon supremes and have fun finding their limits. They might be a lot further past where you thought they were!

They're a great tyre and there'll be times when they're perfect , so you'll definitely get use out of them. And get some knobbies for the winter if you don't reach for the mtb anyway.

Nano 40s are better in mud/wet conditions than they've a right to be given the tread. 🙂

And I keep forgetting why I wanted this bike in the first place - it is for those times when a 40C Nano stops working. So something fat and knobbly actually makes sense...

Conti Race King could be an option? I found them surprisingly grippy in everything but mud, and very fast rolling.

The TLE rolls far better than a 2.35" tyre should on the road, while pretty capable offroad in non-muddy conditions.

Have considered Racing Ralph/Rocket Ron, but have read reviews that say they can be a bit delicate? True or just internet cobblers?

I use racing ralphs on my cx bike, ride roads, fire roads, 7 stanes singletrack and I've not had any fragility issues. They're a nice fast tyre, I'm happy with them.

It's not really a "Monstercross" tyre you're after, essentially no such thing exists, you really want a lighter duty MTB tyre say a 29x2.0"/2.1" MTB tyres Something like a Specialized 'Fast-trak'? or a Crossmark?

There was a 2.1" 'Highroller XC' at one point if you wanted a bit more tread for winter...

2.1" Nano isn't a bad option really,

Specialized Ground Control are a good all-round tyre and seem (to me anyway) a lot faster on hard pack then they should be. They can be had for £15.00 on line

Am sticking with nice fat proper MTB tyres after all.
