Do Air Ambulance carry a camera person all the time then? presumably just in case BBC/Ch5/Pick want to do a series on them?

Venue update from our Man in Tod.

Golden Lion. There's plenty of free parking up Longfield Road right behind the pub too.

Golden Lion address: Fielden Square, Todmorden, Lancashire OL14 6LZ

Longfield road is the junction right next to the pub which goes up the hill.

In!

I thought I only had beautiful landscape shots of Tod, but here's something creepy from the toy and model museum a few doors down from the Golden Lion.

Yay! Should be out for this, assuming I can figure out some way to fit my bike in or on the impossibly teeny-tiny new car I seem to have ended up with.

What have you got? I once got a cross bike in the back of a Citroen C1, but I did have to reduce it to its component atoms.

I wonder if Susan “The Olympic Flame*” Binnersworth will be joining us?

Yaris. It's a bit like a go-kart with fancy electronics in it. Still, I've managed to fit two bikes in the back of both a Mini Metro and a Ford Ka before now so I reckon I'll be ok.

I am hoping to get out on Monday. I actually got out last night for the first time in weeks. Very nice it was too

Of course I'll probably sabotaged by a 4pm phone call Monday saying someone needs website visuals/a 16 page brochure doing for Tuesday morning.

Will I get a ride in a helicopter?

Mintimperial - You'll have to go a long way to beat Hora, who actually has a Smart Car and turned up with his Heckler in the passenger seat

Oh.... and I've discovered I have 2 MNPR T shirts left if anyone wants them. In large (fatty) and extra large (hey fatty bum bum) sizes

Theres also one of these

[img] [/img]

Which is a rather lovely thing in A1 in the frame shown. You know you want it really? Much cheapness to any discerning Monday Night punter 😀

I might be. I've got a meeting on-site in Chester on Monday at 4. Depending on what time that finishes I'll either head up to Tod or might get a sneaky couple of laps in at Llandegla...

I'm in. It's Tod, from the Golden Lion. Back to the Golden Lion. What can possibly go wrong?

Oh yes, it's 'staff day' at work on Tuesday. When we all get together and plan the future. Glad to hear that Greg you did want a PINT of Leffe didn't you?" May is at least doubtful...

Anyone else outside those who have already declared. The trails will be bone dry still, sort of. If anyone is leaving their bike outside the pub bring a decent lock with you.

And scled what's wrong with the on one?

If the day is fair, I do indeed plan to be there, not square [or bare]

I'm not that worried about the rain, as I'm using the train. Also I heard it falls mainly on the plane, ignoring the train.

17g. Pissing it down

Todays unrelenting monsoon-style torrential rain has been brought to you by Dazh

It will have all run off the rock hard surface and drained away by tonight. Any remaining surface puddles will have dried up in the two hours of sunshine forecast for this afternoon.

Well I'll be there anyway. I've got 4 weeks to get fit for mayhem and I've run out of crap excuses for not riding my bike. I've even been out and bought two new rain jackets today 🙂

It's forecast light(ish) showers. So you have a 50-50 chance of getting slightly rained on. MTFU the lot of you! 🙂

* Actual tandem may differ from one shown, and entirely lack rear suspension. Supplier assumes no liability for riding a mode of transportation that can also serve as a metaphor for a relationship. Terms and conditions apply.

Are lights essential?

You could argue that lights are a disadvantage on Daz's Tod rides, being able to see how close the edge is and how sheer* the drops are just turned me in to a wobbly mess, without lights I may have just passed gently in to the night 😀
He does tend to stop and issue a safety briefing at the top of each descent though...

But yeah, lights are essential.

*I was going to say steep but that didn't seem to do my memories of it justice

Assuming no mechanicals/accidents I reckon we'll be done by 10. it'll be dark then so you'll need lights for the last 30 mins or so. You can probably scrounge a spare off someone. I can bring a 200 lumen commuter light that you can gaffer tape to your helmet that will probably be ok. Or you can follow someone else.

I can offer a secure bike park option at Singletrack Towers after the ride if needed.

Also, tonight will be one of Honest Chipps' Bargain Bonanzas* - the theme tonight will be 'old tyres that I'm never going to use. They come in 26 and 29in flavours and will be offered, grab bag style about 8pm outside the pub. Worked well with the old hydration packs last time.

*This will not be the last of them either.

Weather? See for yourself about two minutes ago. That apocalyptic shower that passed over Manchester earlier went to the south of us. Lovely here now 🙂

Cheers all, bloody good turnout that. 15 people despite all the weather doom-mongering was way above expectations. The stars must have aligned tonight or something as it didn't rain, the trails were mostly dry, we had no mechanicals (despite Binner's attempts to break the e-bike), no injuries and were in the pub by 10pm.

Well that was bloody brilliant fun! Especially for me 🙂 I'm now tenth on Strava up Jumps lane. I'd have had KOM if I hadn't stopped to wait for you lot! It's been an evening of interesting new experiences actually. Today I opened a gate. I've never ever opened a gate in my life, while I've been out riding. I've closed a lot. Never opened one though.

Massive thanks to Chipps for the play on the e-bike. I've seen the future!!!!

I've just had a look at the spec on the motor, and it's 250w which means I did slightly better than 50/50.

That's a lot better than I was expecting actually 😀
