Do Air Ambulance carry a camera person all the time then? presumably just in case BBC/Ch5/Pick want to do a series on them?
In (work commitments dependant)
Going to try and make this if my cold clears up.
Venue update from our Man in Tod.
Golden Lion. There's plenty of free parking up Longfield Road right behind the pub too.
Golden Lion address: Fielden Square, Todmorden, Lancashire OL14 6LZ
Longfield road is the junction right next to the pub which goes up the hill.
It is exciting, I agree.
´sup Brant?
Are you coming? I want to ask you a question about frame materials 🙂
It is exciting, I agree.
We camped there in Aug of that year. The fork-lightning was very interested and the rain..very wet 😯
totally mexico.
I'll be along.
Yay! Should be out for this, assuming I can figure out some way to fit my bike in or on the impossibly teeny-tiny new car I seem to have ended up with.
What have you got? I once got a cross bike in the back of a Citroen C1, but I did have to reduce it to its component atoms.
I wonder if Susan “The Olympic Flame*” Binnersworth will be joining us?
*Never goes out.
Yaris. It's a bit like a go-kart with fancy electronics in it. Still, I've managed to fit two bikes in the back of both a Mini Metro and a Ford Ka before now so I reckon I'll be ok.
I am hoping to get out on Monday. I actually got out last night for the first time in weeks. Very nice it was too
Of course I'll probably sabotaged by a 4pm phone call Monday saying someone needs website visuals/a 16 page brochure doing for Tuesday morning.
Will I get a ride in a helicopter?
Mintimperial - You'll have to go a long way to beat Hora, who actually has a Smart Car and turned up with his Heckler in the passenger seat
Oh.... and I've discovered I have 2 MNPR T shirts left if anyone wants them. In large (fatty) and extra large (hey fatty bum bum) sizes
Theres also one of these
Which is a rather lovely thing in A1 in the frame shown. You know you want it really? Much cheapness to any discerning Monday Night punter 😀
and the bike on the passenger seat of a MX5/wheels in boot 8)
I'm out this week. Something about the wife's birthday on Monday apparently.....
I might be. I've got a meeting on-site in Chester on Monday at 4. Depending on what time that finishes I'll either head up to Tod or might get a sneaky couple of laps in at Llandegla...
I will be out on Monday night first time for a while looking forward to it.
Baza
I'm looking forward too it
How big is the large binners
I got my wheels back from mavic in Thursday, so I was in.
Then rode and broke them again today, so I'm out. And annoyed...
Dunc - it's 594 x 841mm. Want me to bring it along tomorrow 🙂
Scaled - were you destructive as a child?
Can do I'll see how it fits. Cheers
DId a half marathon in the Lakes today, and then rode for 2 hours...erm, will see how I am.
I'm in. It's Tod, from the Golden Lion. Back to the Golden Lion. What can possibly go wrong?
Oh yes, it's 'staff day' at work on Tuesday. When we all get together and plan the future. Glad to hear that Greg you did want a PINT of Leffe didn't you?" May is at least doubtful...
Leffe only comes in pints...right?
Anyone else outside those who have already declared. The trails will be bone dry still, sort of. If anyone is leaving their bike outside the pub bring a decent lock with you.
And scled what's wrong with the on one?
no for me. i'm on call tonight, and suffering massive sleep deficit from working saturday night too.
If the day is fair, I do indeed plan to be there, not square [or bare]
I'm not that worried about the rain, as I'm using the train. Also I heard it falls mainly on the plane, ignoring the train.
IGMC
[should I change my tyres? 😉 ]
Having issues walking today. So I am out.
I'm thinking of trotting out excuses 6b and 17g. If I'm not there by 8:15 don't wait.
6b. Knackered
17g. Pissing it down
Rain? What rain? It never rains in Tod. We have our own micro-climate.
Still ill, so I'm out.
Todays unrelenting monsoon-style torrential rain has been brought to you by Dazh
It will have all run off the rock hard surface and drained away by tonight. Any remaining surface puddles will have dried up in the two hours of sunshine forecast for this afternoon.
Well I'll be there anyway. I've got 4 weeks to get fit for mayhem and I've run out of crap excuses for not riding my bike. I've even been out and bought two new rain jackets today 🙂
....has just actually looked at the forecast.
It's forecast light(ish) showers. So you have a 50-50 chance of getting slightly rained on. MTFU the lot of you! 🙂
I'll let you off. the suns out now! 😀
Hi. I might be there. If I'm not there at 8, I'll not be coming. Blue BMW estate, yellow Nukeproof.
Harrumph.
I should make the effort it's a massive 1/2 mile so I have no excuse to make my first ride, ( although I'm sure 17g could come into effect )

What's up?
Birthdays.
I'm sure Chipps would let you borrow the tandem*, Bregante 😀
* Actual tandem may differ from one shown, and entirely lack rear suspension. Supplier assumes no liability for riding a mode of transportation that can also serve as a metaphor for a relationship. Terms and conditions apply.
Are lights essential?
You could argue that lights are a disadvantage on Daz's Tod rides, being able to see how close the edge is and how sheer* the drops are just turned me in to a wobbly mess, without lights I may have just passed gently in to the night 😀
He does tend to stop and issue a safety briefing at the top of each descent though...
But yeah, lights are essential.
*I was going to say steep but that didn't seem to do my memories of it justice
Assuming no mechanicals/accidents I reckon we'll be done by 10. it'll be dark then so you'll need lights for the last 30 mins or so. You can probably scrounge a spare off someone. I can bring a 200 lumen commuter light that you can gaffer tape to your helmet that will probably be ok. Or you can follow someone else.
Thanks for the replies. I have some lights, just on charge at the moment.
He does tend to stop and issue a safety briefing at the top of each descent though
No cliff edges tonight, we're keeping it (mostly) legal 😉
not gonna happen, too much tender proposal still to do for presentation tomorrow.
have fun chaps/chapesses
I can offer a secure bike park option at Singletrack Towers after the ride if needed.
Also, tonight will be one of Honest Chipps' Bargain Bonanzas* - the theme tonight will be 'old tyres that I'm never going to use. They come in 26 and 29in flavours and will be offered, grab bag style about 8pm outside the pub. Worked well with the old hydration packs last time.
*This will not be the last of them either.
I've decided not to ride tonight. Enjoy, hopefully next time.
Honest Chipps' Bargain Bonanzas*
Sun's out.
Todmorden.
And now ^that^
Blinking eck. It gets worse!
HtS if you do make it, 29" ERS please.
Think I'll probably be there. A day of meetings means that I need to blow off some steam.
*Idly inspects brake pads*
No material left.
*Idly inspects rear tyre*
Threads hanging out.
*Tries to move saddle*
Entirely rusted in frame.
Hey, Russ, I just remembered the weather last time we rode....?
*Fixes everything*
...and now I'm out. Got tedious grown up stuff that needs doing. Balls.
Just us and Mountain Rescue then 🙂
I'm not ####ing happy.
Hey, Russ, I just remembered the weather last time we rode....?
Weather? See for yourself about two minutes ago. That apocalyptic shower that passed over Manchester earlier went to the south of us. Lovely here now 🙂
See you at the Golden Lion. I'm off out to do some bloody hill reps now 🙁
Not going to make tonight. Too late and I have a crappy cold. See you next week.
Hi there, first MNPR I can make! Woohoooo...
On my way!
*eats beans on train*
Wouldn't you prefer them on toast?
*pours another glass of prosecco*
If there are any really really fast 29er tyres spare, I'd love one or two. Or mud tyres!
A quick note to say thank you very much. A really enjoyable ride, with some really nice folk.
Hope to join in again sometime!
Cheers,
Mike.
Ayyyy 🙂
Cheers all, bloody good turnout that. 15 people despite all the weather doom-mongering was way above expectations. The stars must have aligned tonight or something as it didn't rain, the trails were mostly dry, we had no mechanicals (despite Binner's attempts to break the e-bike), no injuries and were in the pub by 10pm.
Well that was bloody brilliant fun! Especially for me 🙂 I'm now tenth on Strava up Jumps lane. I'd have had KOM if I hadn't stopped to wait for you lot! It's been an evening of interesting new experiences actually. Today I opened a gate. I've never ever opened a gate in my life, while I've been out riding. I've closed a lot. Never opened one though.
Massive thanks to Chipps for the play on the e-bike. I've seen the future!!!!
Great ride! Nice to meet you Mike, and good to see you all.
Pass the biscuits and cake.
Also, who got a photo of the train of us snaking our way through the playground? That was hilarious 😀
Yes Thanks All, Jennie and I both really enjoyed it and talked about possibly turning up to others, but no promises 🙂
P.
I'm just pouring over the strava data, I love that Binners was knocking out over 550 watts for just under 5 mins 😀
How many W is the motor, 500?
Heheh.
547 😳
You had it in eco, though. Let's say 50/50 🙂
Anyone got that pic? Chipps?
I've just had a look at the spec on the motor, and it's 250w which means I did slightly better than 50/50.
That's a lot better than I was expecting actually 😀
Thats not fair... I think you'll find it was a grey and green bike!
