This might be a bit premature. But then I'm often guilty of that. You did say we were meeting at The Shepherds Rest?

As of tomorrow I'll be a 'local' (obviously I won't be seen as such by the proper locals until I've grown an extra toe), so I'll be there.

Indeed...

The Shepherd's Rest, Lumbutts Road, Todmorden OL14 6JJ

8.15pm

There's loads of parking at the pub, and we'll be doing a couple of loops around the pike. It'll be some packhorse track and some singletrack, ending in a nice pint. What can possibly go wrong?

I'm there!!! New bike has arrived (minus the reverb as they forgot to pack it) so I shall show my face. I'll be on the silver/green cube frittz.

Hope to be there again. If anyone is leaving from the city centre the first pint (for the lift giver) is on me!

Train from Victoria takes 28 minutes. Get off at Walsden, it's about 15 mins at most up the hill.

Ill be there, if I can get my jabs up to date for that far north.

Squeaking away, again. Despite new frame bearings.

I'll be there with my showing-people-round head on. Clover's currently ill in bed so she might not make it. However, she'll pass on the secret co-ordinates to me and I'll make sure you get a nice tour o'valley.

Might be damp, might not...

Just mailed you mate. Lets hope I have a bit more luck than my last Tod visit, where, somewhat unusually for me, I trashed my bike

It was a very nice walk back to the car though

dazh - thanks that would be great. I'm the one on the Boardman FS looking sheepish.

scaled - I'm just opposite Beetham Tower (Dmitris). A lift would be grea! I was going to get the 19.26 train from Victoria to arrive at Walsden for 19.59 so no worries if not.

Binners - quite the coincidence, I'm from the South West and used to take Badgerline X37 from Keynsham. Good times.

Also, no one motioned the 100m climb! That lift is looking even more appealing scaled....

I think I'm in this evening. I'll be on the train so if you see a big lad wheezing up the hill to the pub, give us a wave!

How about The Urn / The Rake / The Tower?

That'll show these Yarkshur types that they don't have a monopoly on hills. Waddaya think Binners?

I'll be driving through Walsden at about 8:00 ish. The first one of you that I see can have a lift up the hill. I'll be in a black SMax.

We can certainly do that next week, if you fancy? I think most people have only done it after dark, when its a bit sloppy. So a blast down in the dry, when you can see, would be a novelty.

We'd have to reign in the cheekiness aspect slightly. But we could do a loop of the out and out dossing about variety. The 3 brutal climbs, subsequently brill descents, but take in a loop over the (now dry) moors over Bull Hill - just to add in another massive climb, as there clearly not enough already 😀

Or the long descent down to Irwell Vale. If you mention Bucky Woods I'll punch you up the bracket 😉

Also, no one motioned the 100m climb!

Consider that a gentle warm up before the 500 foot, 14%, half mile climb 😉

We'll leave Bucky Woods for the next time it snows then 😉

The descent off Bull Hill is a belter in either direction. We can string tougether a great up, down, up, down, up, down, up, down route. Might be best to start from the H&H, then we finish on the descent through Reddisher to the pub.

That'd miss out the Rake (sorry about that) but still leave you to climb the side of Holcombe Hill twice (at least)

Is this another circular route? Can I leave my lock at the pub, or should I leave it at Tod station?

How tough will this be? I pulled a muscle a couple of weeks ago and haven't ridden since so probably going to slow everyone down (Bear in mind I probably would have anyway.)

Quite tempted to jump in the car and come along

Top stuff!

A little bit battered and bruised though. I'm not saying that I flew a long way in the shunt near then end... but it showed up on my Strava trace.

Zoom in about 100m from the finish 😀

It was a good stack - and at least it had a witness. I'd put it as a 'wrong-rutted and sliding but i-can-get-it-back to full-on out the front door' and into a hole... Gracefully done!
Nice to see everyone out. Hope the social pace wasn't too taxing for the Strava speed demons. 😉

Quality stack Harry! Though it confused me a bit. Getting down the last descent, in sight of the pub, seeing a bike lying on the trail, but no rider. I presumed it'd been abandoned in the rush for the holy grail of a cold pint. Then the swamp thing emerged from the ditch. Some considerable distance away. Well... Actually... Hauled out by Chipps! Good effort! 🙂

Great ride tonight though! Cheers Chipps!

Yeah cheers for the route chipps. Good fun that and that last descent definitely provided a few buttock clenching moments with that drop on the right.

I just set off for work, but I was home at 1230 and eating reheated curry at 1:45!

Great ride, though my knee is now going blue and I need to order me some brake pads.

I find post night rides, wired, with no chance of sleep, to be the perfect time to catch up on [s]porn[/s] whatever I've recorded during the last week. The stuff that would get the eye-rolling, tutting, stern look, or flat-out refusal if tentatively suggested for an evenings communal viewing

So I watched the Armstrong Lie, then weird BBC4 cycling documentary Velorama last night. With a couple of ales. Sod getting up at 5. I don't know. You lot and your proper jobs? 😀

I was in bed by 11:45 and up at 5:40, with a wake up at 4:00 when me daughter went for a wee and shouted the house down because she couldn't get a balloon to stay on the top of the lift tower on her toy garage.

Hmmm yes, got a bit carried away last night. Probably why I ended up in a ditch 🙂

Brilliant route though. Nowt like a bit of exposed, high consequence techy-ness in the dark to focus the mind!

I'll be reet.

This is getting frustrating! Managed to get a lift sorted for the mrs so that I could come out and play - then we had an emergency at work and I had to stay on site until about 9.

Gutted!
