I'm off to Dumfries at the end of June to ride the stanes in the area, what is the area like for the cursed midge at that time of year?

Right in the middle of the Midge Season! Started last week in May - you will need the anti midge spray!

It's not as bad as the highlands but they were about last weekend. Didn't get bitten as I'd gone with my mate paul who acts as a midge magnet and takes all the biting action-most useful 🙂

They are just normal midges - nothing like the killer attack midges you get further north.

The golden rule - always take fresh meat with you. Midges prefer fresh meat.

Fresh meat is a riding companion who is not used to midges. He will flap, slap, and scratch, thus attracting most of the midges to him.

Can't get away from them

Good protection Avon SSS (Skin So Soft) - they will land but tend not to bite.

Also (best IMO) Woadworks midge spray

Or the Napalm type DEET sprays - don't get it in your eyes or on your lips 😀

Oh bugger! They do make riding and camping much less fun. Oh well, I guess I will have to MTFU and cover myself in deet etc.
