Bit of a long shot, but does anyone know if the Middleburn direct mount is the same as any of the other direct mount cranks out there?

No they're different. Middleburn(£££) or Wolftooth make compatible rings.

Have you spoken to Middleburn (BETD)? The guys at BETD are very helpful and seem to have most things available
