How are Conti measuring their tyres these days?
Just bought a pair of 2.4" Mountain King 29er folders (from different sources).
Fitted them and thought they looked a bit... skinny for a 2.4. Measured them-up, and at their widest point (outside-knobble to outside-knobble) both measure <2.25". They're big knobbles, too, so the casing must be nearer 1.8" or 1.9", I reckon.
I know different manufacturers measure their sizes differently but really... in no universe are these 2.4" wide. I've got some Maxxis 2.25"s which are wider than these...
If I'd wanted 2.2" tyres I'd have bought some!!!
(weak rant over)
I thought they stuck, teutonically, to ETRTO sizing?
I bought a Conti 700x54c tyre for my hack bike thinking it wouldn't be all that different to my Big Apples (2.35"/60mm) but in reality it is more like 47c and not very voluminous. I have no idea how you can cock up the measurement on a slick tyre by that margin?
It seems to me that tyre sizing seems to be a lottery, my 29er Mud X are certainly not the 2" they say they are, nor were my old 26" Trailrakers either.
