Anyone heard of this?

...just kidding!

Wondered what time would be best to arrive in the Boxhill area to see it (as I live locally).

Many thanks.

I'll be around the Dorking area watching it live. Just don't know what time to get there.

Do you reckon, if I park a few miles away I might be able to ride over on my cross bike and use the bridleways to get to the box hill loop somewhere?

No. A load of the bridleways are already being closed for the event (walking access only)

From London 2012 website:
"The public bridleways and footpaths in, and leading to the Box Hill area, including Headley Heath will have restricted access with closures that will only come into force when crowd capacity in the area has been reached. This is to allow for management of crowd safety.
Junction closures.

Over the whole race route, any public bridleway or byway leading to the race route will be closed to horses and vehicles for the last 10 metres only to prevent them getting onto the race route or horses meeting with crowds of spectators. Otherwise they will remain open. There is only one public footpath, FP 76 at Church Hill Pyrford that will be closed for the final 10 metres on the race route as it exits on to a blind bend and there is no footway or verge. These rights of way will be open as soon as the roads are reopened. All other rights of way in the area will be remaining open.

The public rights of way network will be one of the key ways in which spectators will be able to access the race route and we learnt from last years test event that it was not necessary to close as many rights of way. We are very keen to keep the disruption and inconvenience of local users to the absolute minimum while at the same time considering the safety of rights of way users and the crowd management of these Olympic events. You can also use our interactive map to identify the numbers on the public rights of way."

So perhaps not as restricted as first though.

Ah, OK. I drove home over Headley down part of the route this evening and the bridleways had signs up saying closed to all but foot traffic - but I guess this is the first tem metres if you're on the route and working back.

You'd still need somewhere to leave your bike min 10 metres away from where you are going to be able to see though.

10 metres away is fine for me. As long as it is 10 metres. I'll be riding to Headley off road with the little one on the tagalong.

Anyone know what time the race is due at Boxhill or at least the distance Boxhill is from the start?

there's a cycle festival at Denbies which is at the foot of box hill, with a big screen so you can see the race and then pop out to watch them when the get near:

http://www.surreyhillsroadracefestival.com/

has secure cycle parking on site.

Roads/BWs closed off for Box Hill/Headley etc show here...
http://www.gosurrey.info/assets/documents/row-map

We were up there this morning and security is pretty tight already plus fencing everywhere. The road was closed to general vehicles but we were allowed to cycle up (...but not down). Very busy as expected.

IIRC first climb of Box Hill is expected about 1130, so that makes Dorking High Street 1120ish.

There are 9 laps expected to take about 21 minutes each.

Have decided against walking/running around and will now tow little monkey in his trailer. Am hoping there'll be enough space to navigate from the A25 up to the A24 etc. Could be a right bind otherwise.
