Somebody please do it!

Its already been won by a SS hardtail maniac. I'd love it if those equipment whores got a pounding.

No sandles though. Beards allowed.

You are one sad little person.

Surely no matter how good you are it wouldn't be possible on a rigid, you simply couldn't ride quick enough and survive?

Has it? When? In a hardtail category I imagine?

And by 'equipment whores', I assume you mean 'people with the right kit for the job at hand'?

Can the 29er wheels be crap ones, relative to the rest of the spec of the bike?

Frank Schneider, last year in the challenge race. Second Overall, first in his class (over 30's) on a hardtail ss belt-drive Nicolai.

Whilst I appreciate the belt drive concept there is ****ers all to maintain with a metal belt.

The fact you need to brutalize a frame to get it hooked up is 99% of the reason why no conyo is using one. The efficiency debate is vague too.

Surely this is the job for something with elevated chainstays?

Megavalanche class won on hardtail

So not the main race...

Needless to say it's an achievement still, not one I would want to try, but he didn't really 'win'. There was a whole race's worth of people ahead of him.

I would do it on mine but I upgraded the stem before the wheels

No, it hasn't- he was in the Mega Challenger, his time would have made him 174th in the Mega. Which is still impressive but is not winning. it's a bit like when I came 4th in a hardtail cat by turning up 😉

Acehtn of this province did the Macavalanche on a a rigid 29er though, and Jesse Wigman took a rigid bike to 40th in the No Fuss Endurance Downhill last year. All rather awesome.

I thought suspension forks were mandatory for the Mega.

whatever his time was, he would have been quicker on a proper bike, but might have suffered from attention deficit issues.
