I know some Maxxis tyres come up much larger than you might expect. Is the 1.9 High roller going to be too skinny for all round use? CRC have them on cheap, and I can't decide if I should pay the extra for the 2.1s.
Cheers
get the 1.9's if u dont like em sell them. nearly new tyres fetch quite a bit
Could buy both and send the ones I don't want back... good call!
the 2.3's are on the skinny side...
I find Maxis come up small. I have some 2.1 High Rollers which are much smaller than Specialized 2.0 Captains.
2.35's come up small... find it pretty much bang on for most of my riding. Sometimes I'll swap the rear one out for a 2.0 Larsen if it's running dry and hard.
1.9's might be ok on a road bike I guess 😉
i ran 1.9 larsons on my hardtail and wear great pleaty wide for normal off road use. how about one of each? wider one on the back? when i was ridng in mud i switched to a 2.5 high roller on back and left the larson on the front. very good at cutting thru mud not to good at fast sloppy corners
1.9 and 2.1 high rollers are the XC ones, and a very different kettle of fish to the "proper" 2.35+ high rollers.
Don't bother with the 1.9 or 2.1s, if you want something faster than a 2.35 high roller get a different tyre.
Mate bought a 2.1 HR the other day, fitted to a flow rim, I don't think it's any wider than my 42c commuter tyres. Even 2.35 HRs are smaller than some 2.1s
For me, the worst tyre I've ever bought.
No grip, too narrow, not enough volume.
Vague, horrible, useless piece of tat.
Last quite well though, sadly.
Can't say I agree with Rusty - some of the best tyres I've used. Drift very controlled when they do go, fairly fast rolling, plenty of grip in the corners.
OK, fairly well slated here. What is a better UST bet for xc duties around 2.1 or 2.2? I have my DH wheels with 2.4 HRs, so I want this set to be lighter and faster. Cheers

Are they the high roller II? The newer 2.4 carcas is a lot bigger than the older 2.35 which more like a 2.1.
I've got specialized purgatory's at the moment, seem good, work perfectly tubeless, tread works OK mud, dual compound so the harder center rolls well and they corner Ok in the dry. Not as good as a mud tyre and not as good as a dry tyre, but given the state of the local trails they're ideal.
i had some 2.0 a while back and found them too thin...didnt feel confident with thinner tyres 😉
How fast? I'm on an ikon front, crossmark rear at the moment, but that's on the spanky end of things. A bit slower and grippier I'd be on a ignitor front and advantage rear.
You sure you need the ust version? What rims are they going on. imo no ust tyre is going to hit the "light" part of your specification too well. The good think about maxxis tyres are they are pretty airtight in standard models (better still excepion series) with a bit of stans fluid to get a seal if its tubeless.
xc719 rims. I suppose durability is more important than being super-light. I've been put off my Schwalbe tyres by them wearing out quite quickly, but Maxxis seem to last quite well. There is too much choice!
I have quite a lot of 1.9 and 2.1 Maxxis which you can buy off me, they are just too thin for peaks stuff.
the 1.9" ones are great for something the C2C if you run them at 60psi and just want a little grip off road and something still ok on the road, otherwise id not bother.
But then it depends where you are riding
You ever tried Specialized tyres? If its a light fast tyre for dry the Fastrak is OK like a Kenda SB8 but cheaper.
A 2.0 Spesh tyre is big on volume.
Bland - thanks, but it's not for road use.
i have 2.4 highroller II exo front and rear on my crush and they seem about the same if inly a smidge wider than the 2.2 mountain kings they replaced
2.1 older style HRs are small for a '2.1'. 1.9s could be a step too far. I'm not a fan, but I do prefer bigger volume tyres and don't mind the weight. Got some little-used 26" 2.1 HR Lusts here if anyone wants to make me an offer.
