Doing a fair amount of road miles recently and want to change the 2.35 Forekasters to something faster and more suitable. I have a spare Rekon Race and Ikon, but wondering if a Crosmark or similar in 2.1 would work well on a 29mm (internal) rim. Or even something like the Rambler in 700c x 50.
I picked up an older Hope enduro rimmed wheel a bit back and on the bike radar review it is 23mmmm internal(28mm) and they were happy to put on a 2.35/2.4" tyre.
I'm asking the opposite. Narrow tyre on a 29mm rim.
Really depends on the specific tyre
Some gravel tyres will def be fine on a rim that wide. I've ran Hutchinson Tundra's and Maxxis Refuse (both ~50mm) on 29mm rims and they were fine
On the other hand, Maxxis Minion semi-slicks are pretty square even on a 25mm rim
So, I'm not sure about the Crossmark, but I suspect the 50mm Rambler may be OK if you go with the tougher Silkshield
This article might help. They say 2.25 inch is best in 29mm. Do you can’t be far off
