Just wondering if anyone's tried running a 15mm Rockshox Maxle Stealth in an X-Fusion fork. The thread on the Maxle is identical to the one on the fork lower, but shorter so the Maxle bottoms out before it tightens fully.
Any reason why it shouldn't work either by extending the thread on the Maxle to suit or sticking a spacer under the head of the Maxle? It's basically, after all, just a hollow bolt and seems to be made from a tube of uniform thickness, so I can't see that extending the thread slightly is going to weaken it. But I am very definitely not an engineer, so if there's a reason not to do this, I'm all ears.
Why? The X-Fusion axle handle catches repeatedly when you're tightening it mostly, which is irritating, but I'd also save a few grammes at the same time. I already have a Maxle, so it's not going to cost anything.
Sorry, I can’t answer your specific question. But check out the brand x axles at CRC. They come in a heap of different thread types and lengths. All “stealth” style. Really cheap.
As above. Just buy a twist version rather than a lever that tightens. Just measure the current one and find out what thread it is. Should be easy on a front maxle.
I have a 110mm axle with thread i've got no use at all for.
Thanks for the input. I have a Maxle Stealth already - it uses an allen key rather than a lever like the standard Maxle - the only issue is that the thread is slightly too short to work with the X-Fusion drop-outs. The actual thread is identical. The Brand-X axle looks good, but the thread is the same length as the Maxle Stealth, so I'd still have to either space the other end or cut the thread deeper and not surprisingly, I don't have the correct cutting die. They're not cheap at that size.

I blame X-Fusion for using longer threads than Rockshox. What were they thinking 🙁 And why does the handle on their Maxle-ish thing catch on the fork lowers. How difficult can it be...
What thread do you need? 1.50mm, 1.75mm etc?
What's the length end to shoulder?

The thread isn't supposed to bottom out? The head of the 'bolt' bottoms out. I've seen washers that sit on the axle to adjust it for the aftermarket stealth style axles?
Yep, that's right. I think a washer/spacer under the head of the 'bolt' will do it. Quite a thick one though, around 8mm or so. Looking at the two axles side by side, the thread would need to be around 10mm long, Pitch M15 x 1.50.
The original X-Fusion axle is 140mm while the Stealth Maxle is 148mm. So I guess what I'm looking for ideally is a 140mm bolt-through axle with a 10mm thread, Pitch M15 x 1.50.
I guess this would do it if I were in the States...
